Transfer prices tend to be set for the season and won't fluctuate; however it's as well to bear in mind that, if you're going to go for a coach transfer, then availability is dictated by the number of seats on the bus, so there's nothing to be gained by waiting until the last minute.

I have found that pre bookable taxis are more expensive than ones you just 'grab'

I can't speak for the whole of Europe, but I've found that that's certainly not the case in Portugal, the Balearics or mainland Spain.

In Menorca, it is, as it is set by the goverment.

When I went to Mallorca (Magaluf) this year I was in two minds whether to book my transfer in advance. In the end I opted to pick up a taxi at the airport. Some of the quotes were really expensive especially as I was travelling by myself. Some quotes varied between €30 and €40 each way. Also I had heard mixed reviews about some of them. One was €52 each way, I know it was rather a "posh" car but all I wanted was a straight transfer!!! I paid €33 from the airport and €29 going back.

Thanks, there will be 8 of us, and 2 young children, so I think to be on the safe side I will do it ASAP. Just thinking, if my flight times change and I have to re-arrange the trnasfers - will it cost me?

Try contacting Autocares Levante - they did our transfers last year without any problem.

Using someone else this year but only becos' he's based in the resort we're going to and could do it a lot cheaper.
