I have been to Benidorm at the begining of Jan and the middle of April this year.
What I have found is that the majority if not all of the hotels do not allow smoking in public areas .
However I stayed at the Dalmatas and people were smoking around the pool area.
As for the bars and resturants I did not notice any difference and people were smoking, ash trays being available.

Yes, a National smoking law came into force in Spain on 1st Jan 2006.
We have had many discussions about this issue, not only in this forum, but also throughout the site.

I will just pick up on one point.....
Yes, it is illegal to smoke, eat, drink or use your phone whilst driving in Spain now....

Just came back last week, smoking was allowed everywhere I went.... in designated areas.... of course and also at the airport in same ( good job there, really having to wait over 7 hours for the plane)
and you can even smoke whilst walking on the prom....
also the ciggies there are still half price to what we GET RIPPED sorry pay for in this country...

Oh but the smoke shop is shut on Saturday afternoon and all day on Sunday....
