Hi all
my wife and i have booked 2 weeks in Kos, Kefalos, anthinoula hotel, september 29th, BB for five hundred pounds, with Going Places good deal i thought
this will be my first holiday abroad ever, i am a little nervous about flying but not overly.ive never even been inside an airport, so i really havnt got a clue what im supposed to do when we get there lololol.
we are both 40, but around 39 at heart :), so i hope we have booked the right place, we just want to relax, have a few drinks, with mabe a few nights of something more lively, (but not clubbing), day/boat trips out and perhaps if lucky get some fishing in. Have we made the right choice?
ive read alot on the forum before posting and kefalos sounds ideal, but what about the hotel, has anyone stayed there?, any reviews anywhere?
a rough guide of prices for food and drink(beer/water/pop) would be great
what time do the bars stay open till
do we need any jabs
i know nearly all this info is available on the site somewhere, but ive been reading all day and cant take any more in lolol, so any help you could give me would be great, put a holiday virgins mind to rest
thank you all
Gray
if worried about flying see the thread in the flights and airports forum some of the main contributors are pilots and cabin crew.
also take time to look through some of the threads in this forum such as going on 17th June if you want to try a few Greek words then if you look through the kos aqua beach threads there are various words and their meanings scattered through
go with a positive mind please try the local food, oh and remember imported drinks are very expensive compared to local brands
eftihismenos i thiakopes ( happy holiday)
wizard
i will give the threads a go, i was trying to translate some stuff using a online translater, but it turned it all into greek literally lololol.
Your happy holiday turned into ευτυχείς διακοπές see what i mean lolol.
anyway thanks for the fast reply, all the best.
I dont have Greek text pluss it makes it hard for people to try and say
You have picked an ideal place for your first ever holiday abroad. Kefalos is lovely, I am sure you will, like us, fall in love with the ambience of the place, it gets many many repeat holidaymakers!
We are beatin gyou out there by a couple of days, we fly Manchester on 27th Sept staying at Dimitris Apartments which is amongst our favourites in Kefalos after twelve visits over the years. Anything at all you need to know about the resort don't hesitate to ask - it's our second home We have ten years in age on you and our friends who have started coming with us even more but we do like to have a really nice meal out at night and a good drink too
Athinoula is situated on the road which runs parallel to the main resort road in a nice peaceful position but still within walking distance to good tavernas and bars. In fact you are along the same road as us. we have passed this place both on foot and on scotters and it looks very nice Hotel indeed. Pool looks lovely. Bars open latish - some later than others but music gets turned down after 11 think. Many many good tavernas and everyone has their own particular favourites. Could let you have a few if you like - just drop me a PM. Keep up with the Greek - buy a little phrase book, a please and thankyou goes a long way. We went to night school to learn Greek so do OK with the basics
Again anything you need to know don't hesitate - SHOUT !!!

Couldn't agree more. Kefalos was our first ever holiday abroad back in 2000. Now booked up to go out on 27th Sept. for our 8th visit. It's like visiting a second family, everyone is so friendly and laid back.
You don't need any jabs for the Greek islands.
Bars stay open late, although the noisier ones close the doors or turn down the music at midnight. It is getting near the end of the season when you will be there, but still plenty of tavernas, bars etc. open.
Recommending a good taverna is never easy as everyone has their own favourites, but I must give a mention to the Stamatia down by the roundabout.
Do a search for "learn Greek" on google or something, and you should find the basics such as Good morning (Kalimera), Good Evening (Kalispera), Goodnight (Kalinichta) etc., etc.
Anything else just ask.
Andy.
We are in our 40's (just) and June will be our 21st visit....its perfect for relaxing, eating, drinking, swimming, sunbathing, everything but clubbing
Enjoy I am sure you will.
Not stayed at the hotel but as Heather says the pool looks lovely.
Hope you have the perfect holiday and your hotel lives up to all expectations as it is their first year, Greeces is a wonderful place and please if things do not work out this time in a new hotel do not write it off as Greece is a wonderful place.
Its not a new hotel.
Not long for you now Jackie eh!!! Have a brill time - as if you wouldn't
Kamari - love the user name If you're going from Manchester we maybe on the same flight, whereabouts are you staying?
We could all have a Holiday Truths meet up for a few beers eh!
we are flying from cardiff, an evening flight, so looking forward to the view, on the way back its a night flight
we are more than willing to meet up for a drink if anyone is up for it.
all the best

Also, in your earlier post you mentioned fishing, you can fish off the end of the harbour, loads do. Or sometimes one of the lads off the beach we go to takes a couple of guys out in his boat.
The owner doesnt smile much, and barks orders. His wife sits around all day,all the work is done by the daughters, daughter inlaws sons, son in laws.
Mike one of the sons speaks good english.
we had our EHIC`s through the other day, very fast turnaround (2 days) very happy.
all the best
Gray
