Yes, you're quite right. There are no package tours to Greece at the end of October. I know the difficulties in finding a good time for a holiday abroad as I also work in a school (learning support assistant). It's just lucky that I love the heat so going in August doesn't bother me. It does anger me though that the prices are so much steeper during the school holidays.

I hope you can fit in a holiday to Greece because it's a wonderful place. There are so many Islands to choose from and it's all down to personal choice. I would suggest you pick an island that appeals to you and then ask around for resort recommendations. I'm sure people on this forum will be able to offer you lots of advice. Good luck with your hunt.

Hi! I agree with Shirley H Greece does tend to slow down once we enter October . However if you can possibly go in the summer it will be well worth it. Whichever country and resort you choose I doubt if you'll be making many more trips to Spain. The Greek people and the culture are wonderful. I am a school caretaker ,so know how frustrating it is to try and find a decent holiday at a reasonable price in the school holidays.

How about Cyprus as it is still hot in October, not Greece I know but probably as near as you will get and more or less guaranteed sunshine.

Had a quick look on Portland and they are still doing Crete in October. I have know it rain for the whole month tho!!

If you do reconsider and go in the main school holidays (I have school age children so that's when I have to go  ), I beleive the Ionian Islands, such as Corfu, Paxos, Anit-Paxos, Zante etc are slightly cooler than the Dodecanese (might have spelt that wrong  ), which are Rhodes, Kos, Kalymnos, Nissiros, Symi etc

Crete is the most southerly Island so is also very hot in July & Aug.

IMHO I would still rather go in the six weeks of the summer hols as you are definately taking a chance with the weather at the end of October in Greece. It's a beautiful country, I'm sure you wont regret visiting whenever you go. :D

Hi - thanks for all the advice. Think we will have a look around and see what else is available for October, but maybe book Greece for next June.
Can't really go in the summer hols, as my other half is very fair-skinned and can't handle a lot of heat! Also, as we live on the south coast, very near the beach, if I suggest going away in July/August, I tend to get a "what's the point?" response :?

Have a great time next time you all go - hopefully we will get there sometime in the not-too-distant future as well!

I think June is the best month to go, and when I don't have to consider school holidays anymore that will be the month for me. :D

Have a ggreat time wherever you go. :D

I know the feeling . I work at a school (technician) & can only get the school holidays when it is more expensive. However for the last 2 years we have been to Kefalos on Kos in july. It is a great place to go, very relaxing and ideal for couples. The best thing for us was the onshore breeze which kept it cool. Wherever you choose have a great time and enjoy
