Steve,
I know what you mean, I've playing guitar for years and I know there are some great musicians in Goa. A lot of them have done residencies on cruise ships.
In "The Jazz House" at Candolim you have to wait till about 1.00am to hear any Jazz! They put all the terrible music on (Neil Diamond covers etc) on all night when the 'English' are in eating. The Jazz Quartet only plays for about 1/2 hour but were really good. Typical Goan logic - Jazz House - very little Jazz or none on most nights.
Actually the worst music I heard was a British Prog' Rock band playing in 'The Jazz House' in January. They were far too loud, rough performance with a poor singer and extended (bad) guitar solos. These dudes were terrible but were playing a good few times a week so the Goan's were none the wiser. I'm sure they wouldn't have got a gig back home. Most local musicians could have done better.
Yawnnnnn
I have been asking about music on the forum for weeks now and I dont care what the group sound like im up for going to any place that has a bit of enterainment on ...........lets be honest when you have had ..1..or 2...sure all music sounds good
Maybe someday we will be able to hear some Karnatic music in Goa. I've been trying to hear some 'real' Indian music in Goa for years and can't find any. Does it exist?
