Hi ! We stayed at the TEquila last year and I've written a review in the Hotel Section. It was absolutely fantastic - the best hotel by far that we've stayed in. If you want branded drinks eg. Gordons gin make sure you ask for it otherwise as in other hotels you'll get their own brands. My sister in law came back from the Rui Playacar on Wednesday and the Yucatan was open then - both the pool bar and the one in reception. If you swim with dolphins do the Royal Swim at Cozumel - a bit pricy but fantastic. If there's anything particular you want to know I'd be pleased to help if I can. In the restaurant we gave the waiter £5 on the 1st day - so we had superb service and another £5 on the last day.

Hi Bananatyke
Your wife's English Hair Straighteners won't work properly if they are standard 240 Volts as the current in Mexico is 110 Volts. I have some Babylis dual voltage straighteners that I take with me when travelling to the Caribbean

Hi

We have just returned from the Riu Tequila........I can't praise it enough......we went with Thomson holidays, the reps were great, the trips were great, the hotel staff are the friendliest I have come accross.

The all inclusive was excellent a good selection of food - buffets, 2 restaurant for more A la Carte meals the bars were great ....I think the longest I had to wait for a drink was 60 seconds. The hotel is large - clean - close to the idillic carribean beach (if a bit busy). The free Kyaks, pedalos and sunbeds were a boon for the Kids and my wife.
Do not miss the Dolfin experience.....fantastic
Do not forget the insect repellant especially if going on the jungle crossing which we did.....I got about 5 bites that afternoon
Do not forget the sun cream....v hot and humid at night......but the aircon in the rooms works great.

Watch fot the Racoon type animals and the iguana's and the spider monkeys all of which frequented the hotel grounds and entertained us.

Hope this gives an insight to this great hotel complex....dont forget you can also use the Riu Yucatan's facilities also ....this hotel is accross the road from the Tequila and has a beach front Bar/restaurant.

Cheers

Jeff

Hi bananatyke. We were at the Tequilla in July this year, one of the best holidays we have ever had and definately THE best hotel and all inclusive we have experienced. Mealtimes are quite informal, especially breakfast. Most people wore swimwear with a t shirt and shorts over the top. The main buffet restaraunt for the evening is casual. If you use the speciality restaraunts, of which the steakhouse is excellent, then guests are asked not to wear t shirts or shorts. Some men wore long trousers others smart crop pants which was fine. I am sure you will have a brilliant holiday we loved it and will definately be back!! If you need any more info let me know.

Thanks Paulisreal,
I'm taking a few pairs of smart 3/4 trousers and hoped I would be able to wear them for evening meals as long trousers can be "less comfortable".

I'm just glad we can go to breakfast in shorts and t-shirt as the Riu website wasn't clear on this.

With regards to footwear are (smart) flip-flops and/or trainers acceptable at evening meals? As I don't want to have to wear my shoes too many times in the humid climate.

Also......How did you find the tipping. I don't want to offend by doing it too much or too little.
thanks again

Hi im also off to the tequila for xmas,
I have a couple of questions as well please,
Do you have to wear the wrist band 24 hours a day ??
what sort of drinks do they provide in your room fridge ??
and is the breakfast typical buffet style stuff that you get in med hotels ??

Thanks very much,

We tipped the guys who brought the cases $5 and the maids $15-20 dollars over the 2weeks. This was the easy bit as you knew who they were! Its a bit more difficult in the bars as there are so many staff it could end up costing quite a bit! We tipped those who served us most eg the pool bar staff and one or two at other bars. It made no difference to the service, which was excellent. We rarely waited for drinks and the waiters would often fill your glasses without us needing to ask!! In the buffet restaraunt you sit wherever you want which meant different waiters served your drinks each night. In the speciality restaraunt you have a specific waiter, so again it was easy to tip him and well worth it as the service was excellent with both the food and the wine they serve you.
Yes, you have to wear a wristband all the time but wherever you go you see people wearing them. It also means you can walk into the other riu hotels without any problems. The drinks in the rooms are BRILLIANT! YOu have 4optics and a fridge with beer, water, orange and coke in which is refilled every other day. There is an ice bucket in the room and ice dispensers around the complex so its great having a few drinks while youre getting ready to go out, and any other time you wish!! Our optics didnt have the drinks in that we drink so we left $5 and a note. When we returned the next day we had been left a litre of smirnoff vodka and a litre of bacardi as well as what was in the optics!! Well worth the $5!!!! I cannot remember everything that was on the breakfast buffet as there was so much!!! Different breads and pastrys, cold meats, cheeses, bacon, sausage, eggs whichever way you want them cooked, fruit, yoghurts etc etc. The best food weve had anywhere. We usually like to eat out occasionally even if were all inc however we never needed or wanted to on this holiday as the food was so varied and I dont think we could have got better elswhere.
