And to be brutally honest Turkey has lost it for me.We were in the Ilge hotel, courtesy of Goldtrail and it was a dump!(report to follow).
The turks are having a bad tourist season this year because of the world cup/bird flu/imminent war with Iran etc. and wherever we went we felt they were trying to get every last penny out of you. We`ve been 4 times before and always took the hassle with quite good humour but you literally couldn`t look in any shops without being manhandled into trying things on.Little tip if any of you have small children take their hats off before you go in the shops because the favourite trick was to pinch one of the kids hats and virtually hold it to ransom!gumbet in my opinion has gone to look really shabby and was quite dear. Its ok if you drink lager because you could get an efes for 1.5 ytl but anything else is really dear. The one highlight of our trip was discovering Turgutreis which we thought was a lovely little place..places to eat,The Garden Restaurant at Bag Evleri was fabulous with impeccable service and The Golden Plate in Bodrum was by far the best meal we have ever had in Turkey. All these opinions are of course my own and I hope it doesn`t put anyone off but i`m going to try somewhere new next year..is there a Bulgaria forum?!!!..................Alan.
It just shows that lots of people can go to the same resorts but have different holidays !!!!!!!!!!!!
I am going in July for 2 weeks, and really hope that it is as good as every other year

well i was there last year and thought exactlly the same as aj if that was my first time in turkey like i said previously i would never have returned to turkey, some one even tried to molest my mother in law she 61...but i am trying altinkum this year, but my mither in law aint ever going back to turkey,i thought gumbet was way over priced, dirty, and really missing a lot compared to marmiris but this is just mine and famillys thougth.i know elaine loves gumbet, each to there own i suppose
ps but lioke i have said this is my opinion other people love it
we actualy did go to bitez and it was quite nice though not a patch on Icmeler!Probably a bit too small for us to actually go and base ourselves there though.
Going back again on 23 June i think you just need to look around to get good value 4 money as i have never paid more than £10 a head for an evening meal including drinks
I was in Gumbet last year and as much as i enjoyed it,it's not somewhere i would rush back to. I didn't think the beach was up to much either. Visited Bitez for the day and enjoyed it there, thought the beach was nice and found it was slightly cheaper for food and drink than it was in Gumbet.Going to Alanya this year and haven't been to that part of Turkey before.
Just back from Bitez and thought it was absolutely lovely, went into Bodrum several times on the Dolmus, and was glad to get back to Bitez, must admit did'nt try Gumbet and previous reviews put me off from bothering. But hey at least we went we saw and we will return!!!
