My daughter and her husband love Thomas and Charlotte's in G.Leontos St.This is 2 streets back from Bar St. My favourite is Langanis on the edge of the Old Town, probably best reached by taxi. Depends where you are staying in the town and how far you want to walk but there are a lot of very good places serving Greek food-------and every other cuisine you can think of.A pint of Dutch lager is around 3 euros and a gin and tonic is 3.50 euros. Prices have risen a bit since the change to the euro but it's still a wonderful island to visit. I've been 73 times now!!!

Hi Anne, thank you for your reply, could anyone else please reccomend good Greek Tavernas either in the old town or new town, when in Greece we like traditional Greek food and wine in traditional tavernas, all help appreciated.

It's not cheap but my favourite place to eat in Rhodes Town is Palia Istoria (or The Old Story).

The food is absolutely top notch and you normally have to book as it's on the small side and very popular with locals. It's south of the old town and not really in the tourist area so it's another one you'd need a taxi to find.

I totally agree with the daughter of the second post - Thomas & Charlotte's every time

Also - is the Bar "Socrates" still open in Bar Street? It seems totally out of place - but cheap and there's always something to watch with the youngsters staggering back and forth (but not bothering you) - And the owner - who we presume is "Socrates" himself is a real character - but be warned about the gratis licquorice liquor!

Hi WHL. I think the bar you meant is Hippocrates. Giorgos retired last year so sadly the bar is now a very modern youngsters bar----------adding a few more to stagger up and down the street.

We went to Mangoes in the Old City, but only for lunch.
It's down at the bottom end on the edge of a small square. For the old part, a real bargain. Menu looked reasonably priced for main meals as well.
