We have just come back and we booked online with autoreisen. We booked a ford focus for 3 days and cost £50 approx. When we collected we actually got a mercedes A class which was fine and you also do not have to leave a deposit if you book online. You only pay for the hire car when you arrive not before

many thanks for the advice and links, i have not been over here for around 15 years now, last time i found driving pretty easy (no idiots) just hope its the same, tried driving in Ibiza last year, i only had the car for half hour and flung the car back at them

we now have roundabouts - and the locals dont know how to use them!

We used AB car rentals opposite the Bitacora in May, steer well clear of them, brought us 4 cars before they could provide us with one that was roadworthy. All had their locks smashed, looked as if a screwdriver had been used in them, only used them for convenience, will stick with Orcars at the back of Tenerife Royal Gardens in future as they have always been good.

Yeh Makum - and its not just Tenerife - According a very good Spanish friend of mine (from Torremolinos), their rules of the road (so to speak) dictate that when you are on a roundabout you should give way to traffic coming on to it ahead of you.

Is that just not totally bonkers?..... or maybe its just my mate who is bonkers!!!

eh? Yes that is bonkers with a capital B, it would mean that most of the time roundabouts would be at a complete standstill. :?

Can anyone recommend any Car Hire firms? Can you have car delivered to you and then picked up? Can you pick up from one place and drop off at another?

Has anyone used ORCAR car hire it's coming up very cheap on the internet I was wondering if they are OK. They have quite a few offices in and around Playa de las americas.

We used them last year, no problems at all, asked for a Clio and got upgraded to a Seat. I think we paid 70 euros for 3 days rental. Stay clear of AB Rentals, should be called rent a wreck.

Well, I did hire a car twice from them, the first time a Seat Cordoba and the second time a Citroen Saxo (Class A) and they were both OK and very cheap.
The Saxo was indeed an older car wirth some dents and scratches, but technically there was nothing wrong with it.

We used them for quite a few years, but then I found they were not replacing their cars as often as they should, so we switched to http://www.recordrentacar.com As you say though they do have offices around PDLA so if you don't need one for the whole of your stay it is easy to pick one up & drop off.
Never had any problems with them though.

Hi Nigel.
Have just had our car hire booking with http://www.recordrentacar.com confirmed. After looking at loads of different companies,we found them to be one of the cheapest, even as much as 80 Euros cheaper than some!! (although, must say that we're hiring for 14 days) Really pleased with that. :)

Hi Nigel
Already did that thanks...got £5.00 off, this first time..better than nothing. Hopefully will be able to build up more loyalty points when we use them again.
We would normally hire a cabriolet for a few days, just because we're on holiday, but it's too extravagant for 14!
Only really need a small car,so went for a Renault Clio. Got AC anyway. We were looking at the next class up too,but sure it'll be fine :D
( Avis were charging roughly an extra 100 Euros!! for the same sort of car/deal)

P.S.We drove up to the north for the day, in a renault megane cabriolet in Sep 2004,the top was jammed and it didn't stop raining. It was pretty miserable! I couldn't wait to get back to the resort for a heat.

Hi all,

I will probably need an 8 maybe a 9 seater this October and know that there are a couple of car hire companies around LC, specifically where we stay in Victoria Court 1 but cant find out at the moment if they have 8 / 9 seaters for hire.

Can anyone with local knowledge point me in the correct direction regarding websites or phone numbers.

Thanks, Chris
