I take Garlic and the other half takes brewers yeast the little buggers still bite but you only get a spot instead of a blister...
i am no scientist but apparently they work in a way when the female mozzie bites they take a small sample if they like what they taste they then inject an anticoagulant it is this that causes the big blisters, garlic and brewers yeast taken for 2 weeks before and during your stay supposedly leaves a residue in the blood stream that Mozes don't like so after the taste they go looking for something more palatable

Yeesh!

We've just loaded up on extra strength Jungle formula repellant. Are you saying that even this is proving useless? We are going out on Friday for a week so too late for the two week garlic and yeast anti mossie course of treatment. Hmmm.... how about an environment suit ......

hi every one,
its the same story for me as it is for pub dog I'm afraid,
I'm flying out this Sunday i will have to go to the chemist and find something there. last time i went away my other half gave us these tablets that release a smell the humans cant smell but insects cant stand! so you are lest likely to be bitten the only problem is he has forgotten the name, so i'm going to go on a wild gose chase for it or something along those lines!

Read in the paper yesterday, m & S have on sale a zapper, when you have been bitten you put the zapper onto the bite and the itching stops and never starts again. Read somewhere these are very effective. I think they are a fiver!

hi i think the tablet you are on about is vitamin b1 (thiamin) cheapest place is holland and barrett boots is expensive, take one a day two weeks before you go and while you are there, hope this helps, got my supply already.

I bought one of the £5 gadgets from M&S - they are about £6.50 in Boots. I tried it on a small midge bite, and though it's a bit difficult to be certain, it did seem to work. I will put it to a full test in August in Agios Gordios (yes, I'm middle aged enough to go Thompson Gold)!

I too have bought one of the zapper things and they do seem to work. We use Jungle Formula roll on on our skin when we are about to go out and also whilst we are out and about. We use liquid Jungle Formula plugins in our room and they seem to keep them at bay as well. Sometimes we leave it plugged in all day for extra good measure as well. Another good idea is to take antihistamines with you as they help to calm down the itchiness from any bites you may get. Citronella candles are also a good repellent. If you have aircon in your room this seems to keep them away as it is to cold for them.
Regards,
Jules

OK, got back early Sat (8th July). The tally of mossie bites was : The Missus 1 - Me 1, a draw. So, no infestation that I could see (we were in Kassiopi). However, we did dose up on garlic, B2 and sprayed ourselves with Jungle formulae repellant. We did also see some signs of other people having multiple bites. So I guess it depends on the level of protection your prepared to invest in. Better safe than sorry.

I've just bought a LOAD of Marmite, got 3 days so I'm going to try and get through the whole pot before then... hopefully I will then be Mozzy BITE! free...

Pub dog is right...you need to invest in a decent repellent. I bought some cheap stuff and regret it as we returned from St. Spyridon yesterday and l have multiple bites. The mozzies must have took a liking to me as hubby and kids got off lightly with only a few between them, in fact my 15 year old wasnt bitten at all and he didnt even spray :o

got back on monday. There are lots of mozzies about - so be prepared.
I only got bit once, but was well protected. We had the mozzie bands on all day (from ebay), sprayed with boots jungle formula in the evenings, and had the liquid plug ins on all the time.

The only thing I can reccomend is oil of citronella little dab on your pillowmor around your ankles elbow etc, even burning candles we've found very effective, even at home when very warm we burn the candles when outside in the garden and it does help.
