Hi everyone we have finally decided that we must go to Lagos for part of our honeymoon. We are from the US traveling to the UK, after our wedding, to see some family then we want to go have some private time in Lagos.
We know its last minute, and we know its the peak season but we are going no matter what! We are planning to go August 18-23.
Any ideas where to book our flights (from Bristol to Faro) and hotel? So far I have only been on Easy Jet.com, is that the best one to try? Is there another website I should check out with fair prices?
And if I could get your opinion we have narrowed it down to these 6 hotels - any advice good or bad on any of them? We want something nice, with nice comfy rooms and good close walking distance to town and the beach. Thanks!!!!
Marina Club
Tivoli Lagos
Solar de Mos
Marina Rio
Estrela da Luz
Hotel Marina Sao Roque
PS - Is EconomyCarHire.com the best place to rent a car? Thanks for any advice/help!!!! I am going to try to book this by the end of the weekend...hopefully!!
Log on to skyscanner.net ;their website will list the airlines which fly Bristol - Faro ( but I would be surprised if Easyjet isn't the cheapest)
As for the hotels which you list, the Estrela da Luz and Solar de Mos aren't really within easy walking distance of town.Of the others I've stayed at the Tivoli and the Marina Sao Roque - in fact we are returning to the Sao Roque later this year(so that should tell you something !!).The Tivoli is a lovely hotel and well-positioned for the town;however the rooms vary dependent on which part of the hotel you are allocated. The rooms on the ground floor part of the hotel are a good size, but those in the tower block section are not as roomy. The Sao Roque is an excellent little hotel, family-run and spotlessly clean;the rooms aren't huge(well, our room last year wasn't huge but there may be larger rooms)What I can tell you is that the Sao Roque will cost close to 50% less than the Tivoli would. It's a further 5 minutes out of town than the Tivoli but much closer to the beach.
If you'd like a direct contact e-mail address to discuss room sizes, availability etc. with Susana the manageress, just send me a p.m. and I'll let you have the details.
Thanks for the info on Tivoli and Sao Roque, which of these do you find more modern? I should have added that we are looking for that aspect as well. These places sound perfect.
Does anyone know is AlphRooms is a reliable site? I am finding rooms on there nearly $100 cheaper than EasyJet.
PS - I feel stupid for asking this but what does Half Board mean and how is it different then Bed & Breakfast. The hotels here don't use this term...and when they say twin room, they mean 2 beds? Is there any that have a queen bed? Thanks!!
We have used Alpharooms in the past without any problem but, if you decide on the Sao Roque, I can let you have a direct e-mail address for the hotel and you can book direct with the associated savings.
Half Board is the same as Bed and Breakfast but with your evening meal included. Personally I would not recommend this option in Lagos as the choice of good quality restaurants is phenomenal and you'd be missing out on so much if you are restricted to the hotel for your meals.
Twin beds are two single beds in one room - they will usually be moveable so can be positioned together; a double room is a room with one bed for two people.Really can't help re. the Queen bed but would be surprised if either of the two hotels in question could provide one - should think that,of the two, the Tivoli would be the most likely to have one, but this would probably involve booking a suite.
If you need any recommendations for restaurants, just ask.
I would love the email for Sao Rogue, thank you!
Ok agreed, no half-board! We love trying new restaurants anyway so that option would most likely not suit us!
Thanks for the info on the beds, I understand it more now! Its very different then in the US, so I was a bit confused.
I would love restaurant recommendations as well! Pubs, good bars, any dancing as well - any recommendations you have I would love to hear!
I've sent the details you want in a private message.
I've just re-read your original post and realized that I didn't answer your question re. car hire.
Can't personally recommend a hire car company as it's a long time since I hired a car on the Algarve, but http://www.economycarhire.co.ukis well recommended in this forum by members who regularly visit the Algarve and use this firm.
Thanks for all your help!!
I also spent a wonderful time in lagos last summer. The room we stayed in was here. You may like it based on what you've been saying.
