Have you considered booking flights and hotel separately as you might be able to save money. A 1 bed apartment self catering would be about 400 GBP for a week in May and you probably would find flights for under 200 GBP each, depending on where you live and if you book early. We have paid 450 GBP for our apartment and 533 GBP for flights with BA going for 10 days in September for 3 adults. This is a big saving on what the tour operators wanted to charge us - about 500 GBP. You can hire a car at the airport or get a taxi and still be better off.

Yes. A DIY hol would be about half price to two thirds the price that the OP quoted - if not more. Your accomodation might well be better as well - for the money.

Its worth taking the plunge if you do your research well enough.
