Finally the rain has arrived, just in time for the Sao Jao festivities. For those of you not aquainted with this local festival, it is a celebration of Saint John the baptist, who is said to have jumped for joy in his mothers womb when she was told of the birth of Jesus. So on June 24th it is traditional to jump into water, this was always the local well, though now swimming pools are playing a part. All in all its a fun day, naturally involving copious amounts of alcohol, traditionally feni, of course. Siolim is the best place to watch and take part, decorated boats come up the river from Chapora, live music, dancing, this has to be my second favorite festival in Goa. It rained again overnight and it looks like today will be a succession of squalls, so lovely to have cooler weather, had to wear a jacket last night, and a raincoat.
