Hi Paul
Thanks for your help
Rac
Hi Rac ! Yes there are some "nice bits" in Laganas. Although it is the livliest resort on the island I wouldn't put it in the same category as Magalluf. Like everywhere else you have the touristy places and you have the quieter more traditional bars. I'm sure you'll have a great time - we did and we're in our 40's.
I'm glad you told me that.
I have been a bit worried because although we don't like to think of ourselves as boring old farts, we don't like anything too touristy and loud
Thanks
Rac
Another member here "nice nic" is staying at the Oscar Hotel just over the road from the Tassia in Laganas this month and he might be back now.
I posted some info here that might be of use, and you could drop him a reply or message to get some up todate information on Laganas.

As for Laganas being a "bit Magaluf" i feel thats a little unkind to all the fantastic Hotels and Restaurants who work so hard in the season to make our holidays on the island special.
The resort of Laganas is fairly large compared to the 1/2 mile of bars and clubs along the busy strip with it's Macdonalds and KFC. And at 40 myself i've enjoyed several great holidays there using the Resort as a base and enjoying the facillities on hand in and around Laganas.
I have met some great people out there 18 - 60 singles, groups, couples and families and done the boat trips and even bar crawls with them, hired motor boats and visited the little islands in the bay and other secluded beaches and had some enjoyable fun nights out starting in the evening with a meal and moving onto the bars.
I hope you enjoy the resort as much as i have in the past and meet some other likeminded holidaymakers out there as i'm sure you will at the Tassia.
Paul..
Thanks Paul for all the trouble you've gone to , it's really good of you and has helped a lot
The beach is beautiful too but it's rammed in the summer with as many beds as possible. I'd definitely say it's a pro 18-30 type resort and this is how it's sold by UK operators.
Having said all that it could be a good base to visit this beautiful island, Kalamaki is just along the airport road and a much nicer place altogether, a taxi is only about 3EU each way.
Like I say only mine and several friends opinion who have all stayed in Laganas in the past including myself some time ago plus many visits there purely for shopping During my 18 visits to Beautiful Zakynthos

He's a regular to Zakynthos and all the Zakynthos website forums and he knows his stuff....including a great unbiased section on Laganas
Zante..Tsilivi..Mavrikos hotel and studio apartments..
it has not been reviewed wondered if anyone has been.
Not to that Hotel but a friend has been top Tsilvi and I understand it is lovely. If a decent price I would be tempted to go for it, do the travel agents still have that Hoteliers Gazateer that they used to have? That may be worth a looksy

We really had a great holiday, and we are returning to Zakynthos next year. We have our flights booked, but not accommodation. We might do 1 week in Kalamaki & 1 week in Tsilivi.
Tsilivi is a lovely friendy resorts, with a big selection of very good restaurants & bars. There is one night club (we didn't go). There's a nice atmosphere - probably suited towards couples & families rather than singles. The beach is lovely. Warm clear waters. It's very safe, and there are watersports ect. This island is small, so you can easily visit some of the other resorts. We found eating out extremely reasonable.
You should go for it, I'm sure you'll have a great holiday
P.S. Have you considered booking your flights directly with a no-frills airline & booking your accommodation directly with a hotel? It can work out much cheaper than using a travel agency. JMO
We went to Tsilivi last year, and loved it (we are a married couple in our late 20's/early 30's. We didn't stay in the hotel you mentioned, so I can't help with that. hi we have just got back from tsilivi and loved it, we will return as the resort is great, it caters for everyone, if you have been to sidari in corfu then it is very similar but twice the size. we stayed at the planos apt/hotel and chris and angela who run it are very fiendly people, alex the entertainer is great especially with the kids, we had a heatwave out there and the temp got to 45 degrees and it was very warm in the evening as well. The only down side to Zante is the airport it is very small.
she went to cyprus for a week in may and still preferred Zante plus it was cheaper than Cyprus.

All you replys were really positive so will defo think about it..really did want a 10 day holiday but not may places do them now.
Hello Scarlett. We stayed at the Mavrikos some years back. Have you booked there?
zakynthos as a whole, i think is a lovely island, really very beautiful with some of the friendliest people in greece. but you have to avoid the big resorts of laganas, kalamaki, tsilivi, alikes, argassi. try one of the smaller resorts such as alikanas, agios nikolaos or keri. they all have nice beaches and pleasant centres to the resorts and still have a bit of a Greek feel to them.
lots of info about all these resorts, plus pics on http://zakynthos.foi.org.uk
we loved Tsilivi when we went two years ago and we are going back in May this year and are really looking forward to it.
looking for a bit of info, just booked up 4 Zante, 19th Aug staying at the Mon Repos in Laganas, its myself and myboyfriend going, we r both early 20's. like 2 go out 2 clubs and pubs get drunk etc, but dont like the appartments 2 noisy when recovering from hangovers by the pool, or during the night, can any 1 give any info on the appartments & Laganas pub & clubs & also the beach?
thanks xxx
Hi dotcommon. Going to Alykanas in August for 2 weeks (staying at Alykanas Beach with Kosmar). We usually like the more traditional Greece. Have we made a big mistake??
hi pargaluvva, alikanas beach hotel is one of, if not the largest hotel in the resort. the obvious plus is the fact that the property is situated right on the beach front with easy access to the resort centre. whilst we were there last year, we met a few people who had been transferred to this particular hotel by kosmar, due to, as they described it ''over booking and admin errors'' after originally booking to stay in smaller apartment properties within the resort. everyone commented on how clean, modern and bright the rooms were, but almost all said that the size of the place and the fact that it's one of the main uk tour operator accomadation hubs within the resort had limited it's traditional greek appeal. we went up to have a look one day as we were on the look out for a suitable place to recommend to our friends who wished to book zante this year and take their 3 young children, it is very modern and clean, and as i say, if you get a room with a sea view, it most certainly is a view and a half! i think the deciding factor as to whether the hotel will be your cup of tea is if you are taking children on your holiday with you, as a family hotel it has much to offer in the way of rep organised activities etc, but i am not sure that a couple would get what they are after from this particular property- hope this helps...
We were staying on Kefalonia and took our rental car over to Zante to have a look at a few resorts. The first thing we saw upon entering Alikanas was a huge banner strung high above the road reading' Boddingtons Pride of Manchester. If you like traditional Greece I'm afraid this is nothing like it, sorry just felt you should be prepared.
