Kevin got to agree. I went A/I in Turkey on my first visit to Marmaris many years ago but that's cos it cost about £420 each for 2 weeks for adults half for children in August. Really was a bargain but i would never go A/I now. I realised the amount of different restaurants we missed out on and also it's so cheap to eat and drink in Turkey. Have never looked back. We are going to Marmaris in September this year 3 adults just over £500 including transfers and meals on plane. Had there been 4 adults we wouldn't have been hit with under occupancy so even cheaper!!!

With regard to Xanadu, yes it is expensive, but not the most not by a long shot. In this life you get what you pay for and it depends what you want out of a holiday.

Last november i was staying in Raffles Singapore, last weekend i was in a Travel Lodge near Stafford. You cannot compare the two but the price reflects the difference. When i take my parents on holiday both OAP it gives me great pleasure to treat them to luxury, to be collected from the airport by taxi. For them to have 24hr room service if they want it, to get their laundry done if they need it. After having to always watch the pennies it gives me a warm glow to see them being waited on hand and foot and being treated like royalty.

I like the choice of 6 a la carte restaurants, my teenagers like to go water skiing, play tennis, learn archery, or use the bowling alley.

In july this year we are going to Zante with Kosmar for 2 weeks, a cheap holiday because we are in Orlando for two weeks in oct. I will really enjoy both holidays.

But next year i am spoiling my family and parents again. Because at this late stage in my life i can afford to, and mums and dads are not around for ever.

Take a look at the Xanadu website and watch their video it does look like a place to treat yourself to, and my parents would not fly long haul, or else i would take them all round the world.

Must admit I saw Xanadu on Thomas Cook TV a few months ago. It looked lush. I'm sure you'll have a brilliant time. :D

Hope you have a fantastic time and your parent's appreciate their holiday. I'm sorry but i would never pay that much for one holiday. In Turkey i just love sampling all the different restaurants and soaking up the atmosphere but when we went all inclusive we stayed mostly at the hotel and i realised we missed out on so much.

Wendy, thought i would check the site out for Xanadu but put in a search and got got trip advisor. Maybe you should check out the latest reviews

Hi Al

You can get into the xanadu website from the hotel reviews on this forum.
I did look at the trip advisor reviews, i think that there will always be someone who will find fault with a place. Last year we went to grand Azure Egypt. Very mixed reviews on this site, but it was one of the best holidays we had.

Looked at the Gloria Golf on trip advisor the person said it was fantastic, yet the first few reviews are really bad.

I also think with complaints your attitude has a lot to do with the outcome. A smile and please and thank you go a long way (or so i tell my children).

Wendy can't argue with you there. Haven't yet (touch wood) had cause to complain about a hotel in Turkey. Even on a cheap 2*. If you pay peanuts then you don't expect the Ritz. Infact the 2* was one of our best holidays. Good old Zevkin in Marmaris. It was just reading your report about what you expected and knowing how much you paid i would probably expect the same. However, reading the trip advisor reports came as a bit of a shock. Will look at the reviews on this forum(why i didn't think to do that first i don't know) and see what you are getting for your money.
