Just wanted to say how great all the staff at the A &E department of Paphos General Hospital are.
Due to an unfortunate grapple with a tin of ham (think I'll start saying shark bite - sounds better) I had to visit there last Friday night.
I was seen to within 5 mins, they then called out an orthopaedic specialist out to come and see me. She arrived after another 10 mins. All the staff took great care of me and within 1 1/2 hours I was back home with my tendons and hand stitched and arm in a cast.
I was so embarassed when the nurse who was writing directions down to the late night chemist for me in English apologised for her 'near perfect" English.
They told me to have my dressing changed every 2 days which I did in Paphos and to see my doctor upon my return to the Uk who would sort me out here.
Needless to say after having arrived back on Tuesday I am still waiting for an appointment at the hospital to have it looked at with no sign of any dressing being changed as of yet, nor any communication as to when an appointment might be likely.
I have been surprised at people's reaction in the UK who say better get it checked out as it had been done in a "foreign country".
Chance would be a fine thing!
That sounds like excellent service to me
I understand what you mean about getting seen here. I was four hours in
A&E the other week even though I was having trouble breathing
Anyway you have put my mind at rest should I have to use the services of
the hospital while on holiday...........thank you
Helenxx
Back home,His problem flared up again last tuesday and was told he couldn't be seen by a doctor till the Friday! We were in and out within minutes then had to wait in the chemist 20mins for his prescription.
I say you get a better service abroad.
my hubby was seen by a dr in protaras.the rep phoned and within 5mins the ambulance was there.he had an abcess in his throat.he was picked up and bought back to the hotel every day(so that he could have an injection rather than stay in) and then had final check-up before we flew home.he was told to see his dr who in the end just gave him antibiotics which never helped so they just gave him another lot..make me wish we lived in cyprus..
I had my appendix out in Majorca a few years ago and it was like being in hospital heaven. The staff were extremely helpful and made you as comfortable as possible, theye were quick to attend if needed and the actual hospital itself was like a 5 Star hotel!
Wonderful, I wrote an open letter to all the Hospital staff to thank them greatly when I got back to the UK.
They just provided excellent care.
When I went to the other part of the hospital (not A & E) to have my dressing changed 2 days later I was asked for my E111 and as I didn't have it on me they just charged me CYP 3 which I didn't think was bad.
My mother hurt her foot so we took her to Paralimni general hospital.
To be fair we got a great service there. We took her in and they had her checked, x-rayed and bandaged within 30 mins.
If I took her to A&E here she would be there four 6-7 hours minimum.
I recently had a full hip replacement operation, I went in on the Monday at a local private hospital in Pafos, I had an x-ray and blood test, took less than an hour, the next day I had the operation, no infections no problems, I had to make a claim on my medical insurance but just where in the UK can you get that service? by the way the cost of the Op was less than half I had been quoted in the inflated living cost of the UK..
As I keep spouting this is a great place to live!!
