hi, when i said a winery i think it was but it was only a small shop with grapes hanging everywhere outside. we was taken there on the trip for wine tasting & we're baffled as to which wine it was  it was like sweet medicine to taste if that makes any sense :D

Oh dear....I'm afraid you're probably going to have to work your way through them all on your next trip then! (grin)
Need any help??

Just a thought......next time you are in a decent supermarket have a look and see if the have a Greek red called Mavrodaphne (usually in a dark bottle with a dark, almost black label). Tesco's normally keep it alongside the Retsina
It's generally about £4-5 a bottle in the UK.

From the description you gave (red, sweet and very rich) it could be what you were drinking. If it's not the same you'll enjoy a nice bottle of wine anyway. Give it a try

Fire water is Zivania.

By the way, The Co-Op do a red and a white from Cyprus.

we have been looking in asda etc for cyriot wine, but haven't seen any  it didn't taste like normal wine, thats why we compared it to medicine or as i put it like buttercup syrup lol. does anybody have any names of cyprus wine that we can buy here in england please? :D

You can buy Island Vines wine at the Co-op, but I think what you're referring to is probably Commandaria. It's certainly not a table wine and not to everyone's taste. Never seen it on sale here, but every supermarket in Cyprus has it.

think you could be right, it wasn't table wine for definite. it was more of a liqueuer but it was wine & very sweet. will try the commandaria in 7 weeks then, thanking you

You can get Commandaria in the UK although it's hard to find.

Try Salamis Wines (44 Orchard Street, Weston Super Mare, Tel 01934 622213). You can pay by credit card and they'll post/courier it to you.
The owner is Cypriot so you can get most Cyprus wines, beers and spirits from him.
I usually get the odd case of Keo and a bottle of 5 Kings brandy round about December so I can start practising for the next visit!!
