Hi everyone,
I went to Marmaris last year and I'm going again in 3 weeks time and I was wondering what exactly you can barter/haggle for. I'm fairly sure food/drinks can't be, but what about everything else? Can you go into supermarkets and shops and haggle or is it just the market stalls and bazaars?
Im quite apprehensive about doing it, hence the reason why I didn't do it last year but I really want to try haggling this year. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Personally i get a bit embarrassed, and prefer everything to be priced up -which there seems to be more and more of these days - even seen some jewellery shops with everything priced up last year.
I have heard of people bartering in restaurants - maybe for a free kids meal if there is a group of you - I dont know about anyone else but i wouldnt dare ask for a free meal - Fair enough if offered by the waiters trying to entice you in - would take up there offer - but wouldnt ask
Supermarkets are a no no - Things are all usually priced up!!
Shops around the resort offering all your usual fakes are open to offers - As are the market stalls and Bizarre. Also trips - haggle for these, the more you book the cheaper you will get them (though at offer price of a full day out between £5-£10 including lunch, bargain already!!)
What are you looking to buy?? If you let us all know - We can give you guide prices on what we have paid so far this year??
Cheers
LA
But cheers leighanne you've more or less answered everything I wanted to know, I am definately going to try it this year.
Thanks.
I was in Marmaris in June for two weeks, I went to the Bazar to buy two football tops for my son and my grandson, the shop keeper had them in the bag before I asked the price, when he said 85ytl I replied no! He then asked how much I was willing to pay I replied 40, he said no so I walked out of his shop he then shouted something after me but I just refused to go back, I went to a shop in Armatulan area the shop keeper there asked for 40 ytl for the same goods and I didnt even barter with him I was delighted with the price. It amazes me that they charge the same price for clothes for a year old child and xxl.
wgipk.
a good tip for bartering is to start at less than half price. the turks get a macho kick out of selling for inflated prices.Jewellry and leather are prime examples. Shop around is the key thing...get a good idea of whose charging what. The season is not good here but the pound is so you guys have the power.
