Lou Lou, and anyone else who is worried, remember that Lebanon is the other end of Israel from Egypt.

Yes, it is a serious situation and yes, it could escalate in that region, but the chances of it reaching and affecting the Sinai are quite remote. Those of us who have visited Egypt over the last fifteen years or so have had plenty of scares to consider, including incidents in Luxor, Taba, Sharm and Dahab. This current situation, concerning Lebanon and Israel causes me less anxiety than those mentioned. I stress that this is my "PERSONAL OPINION".

Thanks for all the replies!!!

I am not worried at all to be honest it is other people telling me and my boyfirend to cancel.... I know they are just trying to look out for us etc. but I thought I would see what other people thought! :D

would the travel company stop us going if there was trouble

To be quite frank, its the insurance companies who dictate if you go or not. If the FO issue warnings not to go, the insurance cover will either be cancelled or become simply too expensive. In that case the tour operators have no choice but to cancel.

However, I do not see that it will come to that. The situation is very grave in north Israel and in Lebanon, but I do not think the Israelis would be so daft and reckless to allow similar problems to arise on its eastern or southern flanks.

Likewise, there is very little chance of any terrorist attack occuring in Egypt or Jordan during this period as this would only detract the media attention away from the situation in Lebanon and give Israel some sort of excuse.

Unfortunately tourism in Sinai will not be helped at all by this war as some people may decide to go elsewhere. And of course, the hot weather as well in the UK will also discourage some people from going abroad on a last minute holiday.

Its worrying the problem in the lebanon. We were thinking of going to Egypt in September. For the moment it doesn t look like it will affected
though the travel companies do keep a close eye on such events. As last year Danish friends of ours who live in Britain were told straight out not to go to Egypt around the time of the Danish cartoon scandal!!! They were offered Tenerife or a refund.

My mum got back from Florida yesterday and she didn t have a clue what was happening in the Lebanon and she had been watching the US news. Strangely the (pro israeli) USA is not giving the story as much coverage as here. What a surprise!

looking at going to sharm in nov,am not worried at all by the troubles, mind you i am taking the mother in law as a shield just in case.dos any one no the camel/mom in law exchange rate
Reply
You get the best rate of exchange in Nuweiba. Not many mom in laws but loads of b***** camels so you ll get plenty to the mom.

In fact I d pay mom to get rid of them... they keep munching on my plants !

i would not travel there at the moment as i reckon it may kick off again there.

With the current events kicking off in Syria is it SAFE to travel to Egypt? I'm due head there week this Sunday, is it safe???

Demon, I believe you are going to Sharm, well i'm going on monday, even further north in Sinai, to Nuweiba. I have absolutely no doubt that we will be safe in Egypt, mostly for the same reasons as Swisssinai has given in an earlier post. If, by any remote chance events happened which might threaten your safety in Sharm, there is an awful lot of Egypt to the northwest where they could transport tourists to safety, at the first hint of trouble.

Don't let it spoil your holiday, go and enjoy Sharm as i'm sure you will.

Personally,i would not be concerned,we don't go until next year, but as many people say "you might be hit by a bus tomorrow"
Reply
Frankly, I think your theory about a bus is just as likely!!! We flew to Nuweiba last year on the 7th July and once we landed switched on the mobile and loads of friends txted about the London bombing. Half the family flew back on the day they tried to do London again whilst I stayed in Nuweiba and they did Sharm on the Friday night (still missed me!!) and was in Rome in September when they bombed the metro link so I believe that it doesn't matter where you are in the world - when your number is up........

Besides have just booked last minute and going back to Nuweiba on 21st August and can honestly say Israel situation didn't cross my mind coz I was VERY VERY HAPPY with my last minute deal price!!!!!!

we are going to Egypt for the first time soon and i can say i am not bothered at all. we are going to taba heights. The only thing that does bother me is that Rob doesn't want me to have my excursion into Israel.. ( a place i have always wanted to go to..).. it doesn't matter where you are in the world.. thereis always some element of risk these days and if we all worried about the risks we might as well not get out of bed in the morning..i agree with Jane..when your number is up it is up and thats that...
