We went to Protaras last year and met a lot of locals. Although there was a lot of seasonal staff as well.

I wouldn't worry to much you will meet loads of locals and they are all lovely.

the hotel we stayed at in Protaras had Cypriots working there... the shops also had Cypriots and off course the taxi drivers... you will have loads of chances to speak to the Locals.. :)

That's my problem Jim, I haven't a clue in Protaras where the locals eat and I've only got a week to find them.....

This is what happens when you keep going back to the same place year after year after year, Now if it was Limassol.....

Cheers,
Jinty

Nor have I ...I live in Pafos, but for sure if you travel out of the tourist areas you will come across local eating places, go to the villages around where you are staying, get a map! small tavernas they are the ones to find.

have a good time..

Jinty, most of the bar staff, waiting on staff are cypriot. If you want to go somewhere so typically Cypriot try Serina Bay (spelling) its a little bay with a small restaurant attached and its full of Cypriots we went there for a Cypriot's 40th Birthday last year and it was great totally away from anything.

Hiya

There is a restaurant that we go to in Protaras, down by the beach, it is quite big and covered and it is always packed out with locals with families, I think it is near the sunrise, obviously I dont remember the name. We will be off in three weeks can't wait, like I have mentioned before 6 years since we were there.

If you want to meet locals, eat good home made food and pay local prices there is only one place in Proteras, the Super S (I know, a lousy name for a good restaurant) which is near "Sweet Memorys" hotel apartments.

Tassos is like the Greek version of Mr Bean, but he knows how to run a good restaurant.

mmm! I think you'll find most of the Cypriots are working which reduces the time available to chat. If you fancy meeting them Id suggest a visit to Admiral Bay where's its full of Cypriots over the weekend enjoying large family get-togethers. Paralimni is also a short ride away from Protaras and has a very village feel to it, but note there's nobody about during the daytime!

Hi all,

I'm back, and yes, we did meet loads of Cypriots.

Cabbie, unfortunately we were only out for one week and on our last night were told about Super S. Everything you said and more, just a shame we never got there.

Cheers,
Janet

Yep, I agree with Cabbie about the Super S - we were directed there last year by a lady who worked in the Protaras Tourist Office. Luckily we found out about it quite early on during our holiday, and we had quite a few excellent meals there.
