hi there melissa

sorry i cant help with malta bargains or the hotel.
but as far as the cockroaches are concerned, as with anywhere in the world including this country, there are cockroaches in malta, and like here the problem is worse in institutions like hotels, hospitals etc..
having said that, you will be very unlucky to see one. i have been travelling to malta for 35 years and i have not seen anymore of them than i have seen here.

if you go to the chemist in the uk you can get some sticky pads that attract roaches and once they get stuck on them thats the end for them.

hope you have a great holiday

Hi Melissa,
Like alan I can't really help you on the hotel questions, I have had coffee and cake in their cafe, the hotel seems quite nice, however I have not seen inside the rooms.
Yes, there are quite a few shops around that area, you shouldn't have any problem buying baby essentials. If you head towards the bus station there are two resonable sized stores, Trolees sort of opposite the Mercure San Antonio Hotel near Cape Inch, or Ci-Square at the side of the police station, just two that spring to mind at the moment. There are quite a few different brands of nappies available in Malta, Pampers or Huggies are easy enough to find, as are nappy sacks, baby wipes etc.

Cockroaches: I live on the island and husband has Cockroach phobia! I keep the house free of them by spraying either Baygon (green can) or Pif Paf anti cockroach spray at the begining of summer. These are available at any grocer store about Lm1.70 -Lm1.90 (£3 ish) Spray any hiding places, go out and leave the room closed for an hour or so, then one of you go back in and open the window to ventilate before bringing your daughter back in but it is not a particularly strong smell, I am asthmatic and it doesn't bother me. You will only need to do this once during your holiday as the spray lasts 3 months.

Hi there, it is worth trying Chevron Holidays for a price, they are usually a bit cheaper. I have used them for years, transfers, booking fees, in flight meals are included in price

Hello Melissa
We stayed at the Qawra Palace for two weeks in 2004 and did not see one cockroach , the rooms were kept nice & clean. The hotel is well situated for getting about, the food was OK if a bit boring. The cafe off the foyer is very good for coffe lunches etc, go on book it you know you want to :)
Have a smashing time
