hi
I am so sorry, what a lot of rubbish my last post was, what I actually meant was:
we are of to protaras in three weeks time, I really would like to see some of the island, so wondered how long it would take to get from Protaras to Phaphos via the new motorway. hope that makes more sense.

Probably about two and a half hours drive, but there are so many places to see on the way! The motorway is excellent and never crowded apart from through Limassol where they are constructing new flyovers!

It is just over 100 miles from Protaras to Paphos, time depends on how fast you drive, if you decide to stop off on the way etc.

There is plenty to see on the way and, in my opinion, they far outweigh the merits of Paphos. Don't get me wrong, we always have at least one day in Paphos, but it's nothing to shout about.

Re car hire, email the people I always use, Petsas, for a quote. Offices all over. Ignore the website prices.

We travelled from Protaras to Paphos by coach which took 3hrs. The roads are very good in Cyprus so its quite possible to make the journey quicker.
I loved Protaras, fig tree bay was worth a visit but I felt happy that I'd stayed in Protaras after visiting various other beaches along the coast. Paphos I think is a nice visit, St Pauls column (myth rather than fact), roman mosiacs, kings tombs, nice harbour and quite different to other places we visited.
Its well worth hiring a car for a few days and perhaps stopping over at Paphos.

thankyou all for your help.
Personally I want to stay put, chilling out by the pool or beach, going for a dip when I get too hot, but my sister wants to maybe visit another part of the island, this would be our third visit to Protaras, same hotel, never been anywhere else on the Island. really love protaras.

Hi Wendy

I have to agree with your sister

There is much more to Cyprus than just beaches and if you get too warm

on your trip you can stop at any of the lovely beaches between Protaras

and Paphos and have a dip in the sea :D Try Governers beach just before

you reach Limassol, Ladys Mile beach just at the other side of Limassol,

Curium beach just past Episkopi village and Pissouri beach.....and not to

forget the beach at Aphrodites Rock.........Petra Tou Romiou as it's known

in Cyprus :D They're all signposted so you can't miss them

agree with the suggestions above, all worth a visit. And why not try inland - the Troodos Mountains are a refreshing trip away from the heat plus Nicosia is worth a visit, which houses an excellent museum full of artifacts.

As Cyprus has one of the cleanest seas Ive ever been in I'd suggest some snorkelling.

I just hope its not spoilt for you by the escallation in Lebanon :-/

A trip "beyond Troodos" would be my recommendation, as per a couple of postings ago:
