Hi Hamlett

Just got back, hence the delay

For a meal, it will be hard to beat the Foreigners Club. The most beautiful setting you could dream of. Overlooking the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius

Also, the bar is great.

Loads of bars in the town - depends what you want.

Thanks for your response Peter.

We go on friday and can't wait!

Did you do your own thing to Capri etc or did you book with your tour rep? Also is Ischia worth a visit

Thanks

I went with Voyage Jules Verne and prebooked two trips with them. The Amalfi drive, returning by boat and Pompeii/Herculaneum. Both a must for this area and not to be missed.

Interestingly, they also did a trip to Capri, but were not recomending it due to a variety of factors! They suggested for Capri DIY and get the ferry from Sorrento to the Island. Once there, do your own thing away from the very comercialised tourist traps. A beautiful place I gather. I believe Ischia is just as good but less commercialised.

I did a DIY to Naples by ferry instead, after doing Pompeii. This was a great day out. Only the Neapolitans could make driving into an art form. Red light ! What red light!!! Pavement! What pavement!!! Great place, but do be very careful from a security point of view. Be sensible and you will be ok. Leave expensive jewlery etc back at base. Its no worse than any major city these days. Especially see the Archeological Museum, all the original artefacts from Pompeii are here and they are a wonder to behold, amazing. Great shops here too.

Sorrento is wonderful and I would certainly do it again.

Where are you staying?

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tips Peter.

We are staying at the Grand Flora Hotel booked with Thomson. Ive read pretty good reviews on Trip Advisor and it's only 10 minute walk to the main part of Sorrento & 5 minutes from station.

Just got back and had a fantastic time!

Would recommend L'Antica Trattoria restaurant which is a bit pricey but well worth it for special occasions, very professional, classy and they don't charge you for bread!! It's situated to the right of the main piazza (imagine the Fauna Bar is to your left). They have a web site http://www.lanticatrattoria.com

The foreigners bar is great as well, beautiful views (Thanks Peter!)

We stayed at the Grand Flora Hotel on the main road and it was lovely. The rooms were quite small but suited our needs. The restaurant is on the 5th floor overlooking the bay of Naples. The waiters are fantastic!

We were in Italy when they won the World Cup and boy do they know how to party!!

Hope this helps anyone who is thinking about going to Sorrento...

Hi Hamlett

Glad you found a good eatery, the website is superb as well, I think we tried there one night but couldn't get in without a very long wait.

Would have loved to be there for the World Cup Match - really envious of that.

Sounds like you had a great time.

We have been to Sorrento four times previously and are looking to go again this year. One thing you're not short of in Sorrento is good places to eat - the town is full of them so you're soilt for choice. The ones in the centre of town (Fauno Bar, Bar 2000, Bar Ercolano) make great people watching spots, but if you wander around the backstreets, you'll find some great restaurants. The foods so good, you'll never want to leave!

Hi Tracey,

OOOOHHHHHH am all excited! We go from Manchester at about 7.30 am and will be there for 2 weeks. Are planning to do the Capri meal by night on the 20th Aug they advertise (our anniversary) and the weekend to Rome on the 18th --- oh and the Amalfi Drive (have done that before - ace!)

Don't know if you realise but it is festival time in Sorrento - the Assumption of Mary and there will be a party on the 15th - its a national holiday and your hotel should do something special!

Do Pompeii yourself via Sorrento railway station - much cheaper and safe - just ask ------ I'd avoid Naples!

If you do any of these trips look for a tall man and a small female - that's us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you wear a badge saying Tracey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a GREAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTT time - it'll be magic
