Lovely and warm, very clear, and lots of fish swimming around. Can be a bit rocky getting into the sea, depending on which part of the beach you are on, but it is wonderful.

Sharks of course there are.....

There is indeed Sharks in Cypriot waters, they are often caught off the Pafos coast and other areas just ask any local fisherman, also Tuna, the son in law often comes back with these they are just great as steaks on the Barbie! a local harbour front taverna often has Shark meat on the menu!!! they say it is good, don't fancy it myself though.

they wont come near you so don't worry, no need for hang ups here...

Well, I stand corrected by the Cyprus expert. Hope that doesn't put you off craigybop, but I will certainly continue to snorkel in Protaras and I haven't been able to find any evidence of sharks being a problem in that particular area, which I presume is what you were worried about.

the odd limb or sunken boat with teeth marks lol.....
seriously there are sharks off cyprus but they are of no size and more scared of you , the biggest sharks you want to watch out for frequent the ayia napa night clubs

I did a lot of snorkelling last year in Protaras - its fantastic !! In particular the water in Fig Tree Bay is lovely and clear. I would also highly recommend Cape Greco - we hired a car and reached it that way.

There are plenty of colourful fish and its a good idea to buy disposable underwater cameras. I recall we bought them from Argos, but I don't think they stock them this year. You could try the Internet - they only cost a few pounds. Me and the kids had great fun with them and the pictures were surprisingly good.

One final tip - make sure you have a reasonably good quality mask- there is nothing worse than having to constantly empty water from an ill fitting one. Have fun !
