Tragic tale was highlighted in "the post" this week. A young english guy hired a scooter and unfortunately had an accident. He spent 5 days in a coma and 5 days in intensive care, He as nearly recovered now and I wish the guy well. Here's the sting, the holiday insurance won't pay £10,000 hospital bill because he wasn't wearing a crash helmet. I have just come back from Marmaris where I have seen scores of people doing the same. It is illegal not to wear a helmet, just because the police don't bother too much you must still be aware.
Also it begs the question are you allowed to ride a scooter/motorcycle. The rental people won't ask too many questions but you should. Some of these things are 125cc and above.Does you license/insurance cover you. Are you allowed to take passengers on the back. BE SURE that if you have an accident your insurance company will soon find a way NOT to pay out.
If you are unfortunate to have an accident, the traffic police/jandarma will visit the scene and automatically breathalyse you. If you are over the limit then you will be arrested and your insurance null and void .
Please have a great holiday and enjoy yourselves SAFELY.....
