Well thats what I was thinking. Mind you, I understand in Scotland if you are caught disposing of your used cigarette butt in a public place you will be fined.

As for Spain, what you are saying is anywhere in the open air in public is ok, but Public Places undercover, or inside are now subject to restrictions??

You can get an on the spot fine of £60.00 for putting cigerettes out on the floor in public areas in Leeds. There are Law Enforcement officers all over town and C.C.T.V. cameras on every corner. I think that I might go in to business selling those little portable ashtrays that they sell in Benidorm.

Ps. Sorry for going :offtop

The Copacabana/Farggi bar on the promenade did go from a bar where smoking was permitted into a non-smoking bar on the 1st Jan 2006 and still was a non-smoking bar in June on my last visit.

The good news, well for you smokers anyway, is that you can still smoke here but i'm afraid its only on the terrace outside, inside totally smoke free! :)

Somebody mentioned the other week (Can't find the post) that Alicante airport is now totally non smoking. Well, that's not true, although they have banished it at the end where the duty free shop and phone boxes are there is still the area past the V.I.P. lounge near the sign for gate 20/21 where you can have a crafty puff even though there are no smoking signs on the wall the officials seem to turn a blind eye to it.

hi sue

so in a roundabout way it is a smoking free airport

it was me who put the post on i asked 3 different people and all told me that i had to go outside for a ciggie !

did not see anyone smoking at all upstairs so went out !

i would rather go out than have a crafty puff as you put it :tut

Thanks for the infomation, i have just booked pelicanos for 11th nov so that was very informative to me, as a smoker i don't mind not being able to smoke in the hotel, i can understand as my hubby is a non smoker, but as long as i can smoke on the balcony that is fine, i hate the way people just discard ciggies in the street, i always make a point of putting it in a bin, also although i enjoy a ciggie after a meal i think it is good that you don't smoke in a restraunt and spoil it for non smokers

Thanks Diane 6001, Don't mind not smoking in public places but was a bit worried about not smoking at all. Just hope the Tabaccos will be open when we arrive Saturday afternoon.

:D Hi helen, don't do what i did, arrived in benidorm with about 6 cigs in my packet, thinking I could just pick a couple of packs up in any supermarket, I had no idea that as from 1/1/06 they couldn't sell them. Then it took me ages the next day to find a tabaconist (which I did eventually!), :D

I e-mailed Eurotobacco about opening hours and the reply was that the Avda del Mediterraneo Store was open Monday to Saturday 9.00 to 21.00 hours

We will be getting there at 10 pm on a sat night, is there any tobac shops open on a sunday, do they still have cig machines in the hotels?

Thanks Rosie

Hi Rosiepeardrop, some of the Hotels have Ciggie machines, it depends where you are staying. I know that the Flamingo Oasis has one. I would imagine that they have the machines in the hotels that allow smoking.

The Tabacos shop up from the indoor market opens on Sunday but only till either 1 or 2pm, (The one on the front near the Beach Rock Cafe definately doesn't open Sundays) that is the only one that I'm aware of that is open and they only started opening in the past few months. It does seem to get very busy so be prepared to queue. If you only want a pack to see you on then go to the counter as you go in on the right where you can buy single packs over the counter and it will save time.

I have just noticed that you are staying at the Pelicanos, I can't see them selling ciggies as it's now a non smoking hotel (I believe).

You should be able to get some from Panchos which is only a 5 minute walk from there, I understand that they have a machine.

There is a H.T. member called Burnett who sits by it most evenings so why not p.m. her to find out if it's still there.

Do you know Sue, that is something that makes my :swear blood boil.

As you are aware from my previous posts, the Hotel Los Dalmatas went no-smoking...yet the hotel still has a vending machine in the salon flogging cigs.
Now that is taking the pee, as far as I'm concerned....and me being me, I told the Director, who just shrugged his shoulders at me.
By all means flog cigs in an hotel, if the hotel has allocated an area in which to smoke them, but he must think people are gonna buy a packet from the vending machine and then go either outside or up into their room.

It's like selling cream cakes at a slimming class...the plonkers.!!!!
