Since getting our amazingly cheap flights to Bali I have booked Kumala Pantai by phone and confirmed by email at 385,000 rups... about 21 pounds a night, this is for the room and includes breakfast for two and all taxes.
Kumala Pantai is a new-ish hotel and about 4 years old in Legian and a great favourite with Australians, Kiwi's (and Indonesians during their own holiday period) and amazing value. For those who know Tuban, Kuta and Legian well it's north of Kuta and past the Bali Padma.
It seems to me that Sanur is heavily marketed by British travel agents... and we don't see too many Brits in the Kuta area. My first time in Bali was in Nusa Dua and purely because my travel agent thought I wouldn't be able to hack it... slowly we have crept in towards the Kuta area without actually staying there. However, it's difficult to see these days where Tuban, Kuta and Legian start and finish. I like nice hotels and Kumala Pantai has a fabulous reputation and offers value for money.
You may may to google the hotel but Shh !!! keep it to your self.
The reason we picked Sanur in the first place was I am a bit of a coward. I had wanted to go to Bali before the first horrific bombing then was frightened off for a few years. We eventually picked Sanur as I felt it was relatively safer( but who knows?). Anyway, we loved it! We may be returning next summer, but also looking to combining it with Ubud for a few days.
I thought your post was better under its own thread but please note- I kept your hotel name quiet But you are not totally off the hook as I am adding it our reviews page!
If your thinking of Ubud you might like to look at this http://micbali.proboards21.com/index.cgi?board=ubud&action=display&thread=1059436312
I belong to Mic's Bali website (Mic's a girl lol) I also belong to another Bail travel forum where my friends rave on about Tegal Sari and stay there often. They have new rooms called the wooden rooms. You can book direct and there are lots of pics on Mic's site too.
We might even get there ourselves as the Kumala Pantai is so reasonable we may use it as a base and have a few days in the hills.
Check out Mic's site it's really good.

I love the look of the wooden room! Also like the idea of looking out on to the rice terraces. Bali must have the most stunning scenery I have ever come across.
Booking was easy and they are very prompt at replying... although we do have to pay by Sept 06 even though we are not going till 1st June 07. It came to about 26 pounds a night for the room and a basic breaky for 2 so that's an excellent price. They have a cancellation policy and so no worries.
I only gave you the link to Tegal Sari... here is the address for Mic's Bali site. She is not a travel agent ... this web site is her hobby.
