Firstly let me say we (me, hubby & 13yr old daughter) have been to Turkey 3 times before so we pretty much know what to expect.
Having never heard of Goldtrail or Onur Air we set off with an open mind. Firstly, collecting tickets at airport (which we have never done before - booked Fri travelled Weds) went exceptionally smoothly. Flight good, food as good as any other, bonus free soft drink with meal followed by tea/coffee, only real negative was no TV/Radio but we can live with that.
Transfer was a bit of a nightmare - as we booked late we assumed we were flying to Dalaman but only on receiving confirmation did we realise it was Bodrum. If you've been to Icmelar before (we have once) you'll realise that the journey takes you over mountain roads and the coaches seem to travel at around 15 mph - needless to say (including the 20 min stop at the services/drop offs the transfer took around 3 hours - not good. When we arrived at the Miray around 6am there was some confusion and they didn't have us booked in. Goldtrail rep was pretty useless but the nightporter was Ok and managed to find us a room (at the front overlooking the bar/road - not suitable if you have small children who like to sleep beore midnight). The Miray was spotless, rooms cleaned & towels changed everyday & good reception staff. Breakfast usual Turkish stuff, no juice though you have to buy this from bar. Pool area very disappointing (small and lack of sunbeds) but we went to the beach everyday as it was so close. Troys bar is beneath hotel & VERY LOUD from 9pm ish to midnight, most of lads OK but one or too a little too full on - even for Turkey. Icmelar has trebled in size since we were last there, loads more fun pubs. Return transfer another nightmare, our flight was at 5pm and we were picked up 9.30 to 9.50 am, as you can imagine even after the journey we were at the airport hours and hours early ( I felt cheated out of a day), not sure why this is but seems to be accepted by regular Goldtrail customers. We had a problem with flight (delayed 1 hour) and then had to land in Istanbul to re-fuel, we had to wait 1.5 hrs in airport - then 1 hr on plane before finally setting off. Onur air gave us a free drink in airport and on plane but situation could have been handled more efficiently, there seemed much confusion and no one actually explained what was happening. All in all a good holiday for the price but probably wouldn't travel with Goldtrail again unless we were close enough to airport to get our own taxi.
How did you not know what airport you would be arriving at? Surely this was on the check-in, departure lounge, gate and airport screens?
it seems only goldtrail do this............ i think that they book so many flights to marmaris and use Bodrum as a overspill facility, either that or taxes/fuel cheaper at Bodrum...... it is one hell of a journey and not the right way to start a holiday.....having said that,goldtrail are the cheapest operators so I suppose you get hat you pay for
They did say they only realised it was Bodrum and not Dalaman when they got their confirmation. Third paragraph.

we booked last minute and picked up our tickets from the airport at that point realising we would have to do the nightmare transfer from Bodrum to Marmaris (so not quite as far as you, but not much different)
Once we got to the airport they told us we were at a completly different hotel to the one we booked and that is where we would have to go. We complained to the rep once in resort but she was useless and not prepared to do anything about it. The hotel we stayed at was pretty grubby and had a horrible small pool which stank. Needless to say we spent all our days down at the beach like you. Some girls staying in our hotel had also booked a much nicer hotel and had to end up slumming it in this place also.
It all boils down to the fact that goldtrail are complete and utter cowboys and when it comes to bookings it doesnt seem that they honour much, answer.... never ever book with them again, nightmare!
goldtrail= cheap ..... get what you pay for unfortunately
Well I booked through low cost beds and they sorted out our accommodation successfully, (ask my daughter!) but yes it is true I won't travel with them again goldtrail/onur air because I took a bad asthma attack in Dalaman Airport on the way home, and although the ward/airport worker got me on the plane first, the actual cabin crew did ignore me on the flight, now if that were Thomas Cook who we flew with last year on our flight , they would'nt they have ignored my stiffiling plight and I was smothering without any oxygen, and my doctor said I should have been given oxygen, ( if anyone has or had anyone with any Asthma attack especially a very bad one they would understand my plight, actually I should have been hospitalised )or given oxygen) and would have been only I was determined to get home and not be kept in a Hosp., in Turkey, but anyway although the airport attendant got us onto the airplane first and let me breath the fresh air at the bottom of the runway before boarding the plane the airline staff wasn't sucessful in gettin the airline staff on the plane to allow me to sit in the first aisle while the plane was been boarded by 350 passengers if I remember,
Apart from that and the fact thet there was no t.v. and everyone was very bored on the flight after a liittle while, plus the fact that it was an airbus that we were travelling on makes a lot of more bored travelleres,;anyway you get the picture hard for me to relay it as I'm writing without my glasses.
Sorry I'd intended to add that in my opinion it does'nt really matter who you book with you enjoy your holiday anyway no matter what holiday firm or airways you book with sometimes you do just to spite them I think it adds something to the holiday I rem., the youngest two kid's and I went to Muge Hotel in Marmaris two years ago, (goldtrail hol.,) now it was'nt anything in particular to look at but we still enjoyed it and Marmaris so it does'nt really matter honestly you'll still enjoy your holiday but it makes some difference also when you know you can settle in your hotel comfortably also as we could this year in Irmak Hotel/Apartments also. (a non goldtrail hotel)
I can`t understand why more people don`t make their own arrangements when going on holiday instead of trusting a third party not to rip them off. If you can use the internet to complain about things then you can use it to book your own arrangements. It`s easy to do and you usually save money too. Only when more and more people vote with their feet will these companies realise that they have to deliver a good service or not at all.
tibbs.... its not a case of complaining, my complains went straight to the holiday company themselves, people here are letting others know of their experiences so other can avoid being treated in the same way
