Hi Gagamusic,

I'm doing the opposite to you and am also a bit worried

Been to Gumbet/Bodrum for a few years on the run so thought we'd try somewhere else this year (looking at Marmaris)

Bodrum and Gumbet are great places, I like the fact that they are so close to each other, yet the atmosphere is different in each place. Gumbet is very Englishified (if that wasn't a word before, it is now! )yet I found Bodrum to be less so, had some great times in both. We've had a wonderful time there everytime we've been, so am hoping that Marmaris is just as good!

Hope you have a fab time!!

hi Amy,

like you i spent a fantatic two weeks in Gumbet 2 years back (probably my best holiday ever) and enjoyed the fact you can travel between it and Bodrum with relative ease. Then last year i decided to book to go to Marmaris for a change.

I cant say i was as keen on the centre of Marmaris (compared to Bodrum/Gumbet) but i still had a really good holiday there. We tended to stay down by the beach which had a good collection of bars and restaurants and the prices were much cheaper. Also much the same as Bodrum/Gumbet you have Ichmeler which is a short Dolmus ride away from Marmaris. I'd suggest visiting here as it was a bit smaller and a really nice place. (you can also get the water taxi round to Ichmeler which is a nice cool trip! :D

Thanks Gaffer, Icmeler is definately somewhere we're going to have a look at while we're out there, sounds like a great place.

Now you've made me a bit sceptical of trying Marmaris...still going to go for it though, like you said, you still had a really good hol. What was different about Marm to Gumbet/Bodrum (I know that's a fairly difficult question :? )

I just keep thinking that the world is too small to go to the same place over and over, but after a pretty disastrous holiday to Kavos last September I've moved back more towards being a creature of habit :D

glad to know i'm not the only person who panicks before their holiday! I posted the original post so i can't (yet) comment on gumbet o bodrum, but i can say that i loved Marmaris. i think that you should try Marmaris because i can pretty much garrantee that you will love it too, even if you do end up comparing it to gum/bod there isn't anything i can think of in marmaris that could put u off. Both times i stayed in marm i stayed quite far from bar street but very close to the beach, i found that this is the best area to stay because the beach is lovely (and so are the returaunts on the beach front) and you get really good more family orientated entertainment on the beach front, then you can get the bus into bar street for a really late night!!!
Anyway i'm off to gumbet tomorrow!!!! for 2 weeks so i will be back hopefully with some brilliant stories of gumbet and bodrum and hopefully i'll love it as much as marmaris!!! see u soon xx

lol, nope you're not alone in panicking pre-holiday! Marmaris sounds perfect...sounds pretty similar to Gumbet to be honest, so you'll be fine

Have a great time, I'm sure you will!!

haha.... you know i'll be back Elaine :D
it is a really difficult question as to how the two places are different. I think that i found Gumbet just a bit more personal, Marmaris is really big (which isnt necessarily a bad thing) but didnt have the same holiday resort feeling as Gumbet did.

But like i said before, make no mistake i did still have a good hol in Marmaris its just i prefer Gumbet. I think that down by the beach in Marmaris has more of the Gumbet feel. We only went up to bar street a couple of times.

I have heard that Kavos isnt very nice, its one place i wont be trying!

Thanks Gaffer, I know what you mean...I enjoy the resorty type feel to a place (by the sounds of it we'll be spending most the time down by the beach bars)
