Depends what you class as walking distance, it's about 10 minutes, downhill going and steep uphill coming back, (And that is using the shortcut) stayed here last september (private rental) and found the apartment to be superb and very secure. I think also there is a member on here who rents his apartment out. There is a bus stop 5 mins away (again using the shorcut) the train station is about 15/20 minutes away and both modes of transport will get you into Benalmadena, Fuengirola, quickly and cheaply.
If anyone in your party has walking difficulties or are fairly elderly, then I advise taxi journeys back up to the apartment,.
If you need any further help, let me know
Cheers

Yep have encountered steep hills on the Costa Del Sol before! Did you manage to find some places to eat near to Monte Canada? Have 2 kids who enjoy burgers, fried eggs etc on holiday rather than traditional Spanish fayre....
The main area is a bus ride away mate, but there are a number of places to have burger chips etc etc with 15 minute walk of the apartments, there's also a decent curry house as well.
There's a number of places to get a beer and a few supermarkets also within this walking distance mate, so your not out in the wilderness but in order for you to be really spoilt for choice you can bus the bus or train into Fuengirola, or the other direction to Benalmadena. You could walk along the beach into Fuengirola in around 1 hour (it's a great walk to be fair) it'd be around 35 minutes, but i've allowed 25 extra for the kids !!!.
A bus would take no longer than 10 mins
Benalmadena is great and I thorughly recommend going there to the harbour, I much prefered it to Puerto Banus, There's hundreds of places to eat and there's also a sea life centre etc for the kids. If you do go to Benal, then the Parque Paloma is a must, great big park where the animals walk freely amongst the people

Thanks Danny. Reassured that we are not in the middle of nowhere!!
When you go drop me a line and i'll let you know where the shorcut is, it's straightforward enough, basically go under the railway tracks using a tunnel.
Cheers

The apartment was excellent - really clean, well equipped with aircon, dvd, washing machine etc and secure. The owners did some food shopping for us because we were arriving late evening - really nice of them as we didn't have to rush about finding a supermarket straight away. The apartments have a large swimming pool and a paddling pool for youngsters. There is a lifeguard and you can use the pool until 8pm in high season. I think a lot of the apartments must have been long term lets as there was always plenty of room at the poolside.
We booked the apartment through holiday rentals but the owners also have their own website holidaydelsol. It's well worth a look if you are considering taking a family holiday in the costa del sol.
The tennis courts are free and the location is superb.
Down the bottom of the bank from the complex is a good restaurant (Strawberries Bistro) owned by a couple from Manchester. Also the Carvajal beach is my favourite along that stretch and is only a 5-10 minute walk away. The bus stops on the main road just down from the apartment make it really convenient if you fancy a night out in Benalmadina, or feel too tired to walk into Fuengirola.
A good website for property in Monte Canada is holidaylettings.co.uk as to my knowledge approximately 12 Monte Canada properties for rental can be found on that site.
Also the walk up the bank to the complex is handy for burning of those extra pounds put on by too much daytime and evening eating and drinking.
p.s I'm the member on here who rents my apartment out, but I wont advertise it in case I get my hand slapped!
