Looking forward to them! The Shangri La is one we have been looking at. I am also interested to hear what the weather was like in Penang.
Great holiday. Arrived in KL to rain- which dried up quickly, had dinner at the bottom of the Petronas towers and then went back to hotel- to collapse after the flight. Set the alarm for early start - arrived at the bottom of Petronas towers at 8:15 and queued for an hour and a half for a ticket to go up the tower (12:30) so walked back to KL tower and went up them, both give wonderful views. Drank on the road opposite the Shangri-la until late- quite an eye opener. Next day started off at the war memorial, through the park, up to the butterfly park and finally the bird park. Back to the hotel to relax. Evening spent in Chinatown- well worth the experience.
Arrived at Penang. Hotel great- 4th visit to the Golden Sands, wonderful reception. relaxed for most of the holiday- had a daily walk and did the usual things- Penang Hill, Georgetown, the 2 Buddha temples, Taluk Bahang, the local bus..... Ate in a variety of places- Kampong, Jewel of the North, Marios and the Hawkers. The taxi drivers went on strike as they were told they were to go onto meters- they came back to work but some were giving prices still. Drank most nights at Sigis- the best thing being that it was Happy Hour from 10:30- 12:15pm. Went jet skiing twice- first time in 5 years (yes I know they are not licensed) but thought it was great. Had a tour of the Rasa Hotel- it has been renovated and is supposed tobe opening on the 26th Spetember but it is a complete building site.
A great holiday- reccomend it anybody.
Do the rooms in Golden Sands all have balconies? They don't seem to mention any and I like a balcony.
Penang is changing alot- building is going on outside BF- The town has grown in the last 5 years. Its still recognisable- not alot has changed. Sea facing rooms in the Golden Sands have balconies- hill facing rooms don't/ Sigis is the bar by the sea in the hotel.
good to hear I would still recognise it!
