Is Santorini quite a lively island or more for couples wanting a quiet, relaxing holiday. Are all the beaches dark sand ?
Christine
I wouldn't class Santorini as a lively resort. The brochures stated that Kamari (where we stayed ) did have lively nightlife if you wanted it. I disagree. we were two couples in our 40's and one younger couple and even we found it quiet. As for the beaches, they are mainly black volcanic sand but there is a "red beach" which looked stunning and a white beach which we never saw.
I'm just about to write a full review in the relevant sections now, if you'd like to look later and get more details.
All the beaches are black sand/grit. The livliest places are Fira, Kamari beach, Perissa roughly in that order. Other places and inland villages are much quieter. Fira is more International Island Hopper-ish, the beach resorts are packagy, mainly Brits.
Hi Ouzo ! WE've just arrived back from Kamari and found loads of Americans holidaying there.
hi We just got back on 15th of August and I found Kamari to be full of Americans /italins/Antipidians? Not any brits at all? and such a lovelly place with its Black beaches and loads of tavernars and pubs/clubs
Hi John & fran Where did you find your pubs & clubs cos' we didn't find any in 2 weeks. Tavernas and restauraunts yes! but no pubs & clubs as such!
unless you call a handful of bars screening football a pub or club, helen.
