Would love to visit Rhodes Town next August ( school hols etc) - looking for a quiet location in Rhodes Town- have looked at the Athena Aparthotel , could anyone provide info about these apartments or advise on any others
Also how bad is the wind in Rhodes Town in August
Many thanks!!
The climate is fantastic during the summer and any breeze is normally most welcome. The temperatures posted on web sites and newspapers are based at Rhodes Airport which is normally affected by the wind but if you notice over the last few days it has been much hotter than normal (36 deg C) due to the absence of wind. The east side of the island is usually about 5 dec C hotter as the wind is normally lighter on the east coast.
I agree you will be pleased with having a wind, I was there in July/Aug and on a day trip to Lindos the heat was unbearable as there was no wind down that side of the island.
The Athena is situated one road back from the beach and is a very good hotel according to a friend of mine who always stays there.I'm afraid it won't be quiet in august as that is the busiest month on the island and there are a good few bars around that area. It's also quite close to Orfanidou St. (Bar St.) so late night noise is inevitable. However I think doors and shutters closed will help cut out out much of the noise. Hope that helps, Anne
I am now wondering whether to now stay in Ixia or Rhodes Town.
What is Ixia like - lively or quiet, could anyone provide details of good self catering accommodation.
Can anyone provide details of self catering/bb accommodation in perhaps a more quieter area of Rhodes Town ( wanting to travel August 2007)
Can you walk into Rhodes Town? - if so how long does it take?
Ixia is a purpose built resort just south of the capital. If you're looking for a quiet holiday then i'd steer clear of the main road which again will be very busy given the time of year. I'd say it has quite a relaxed pace as it's popular with families and older couples - there are plenty of restaurants and bars and even a couple of clubs at the far end of the resort but i wouldn't say it's lively. Of the properties i know i'd recommend Atlantica Princess and Dionysos or if you're happy with a small, friendly b&b then Hotel Pine Trees is a nice quiet spot. Dionysos is the closest to Rhodes Town of the 3 i mentioned.
Yes you can walk to Rhodes Town but Ixia is quite spread out so it really depends on where in the resort you are as to how long it will take. There's also a very regular bus service and taxis are cheap and readily available.
Have stayed in the Athena hotel a couple of times we found it an exellent hotel and staff were very helpful everything you need is in the apartment we didnt use the cooking facilitys as we found the bars and reseraunts in the area very reasonable havnt been in August but even with bar street around the corner we had no problems with noise the pool is very small but clean and does the job the beach is only 3 mins walk if that and the wind poses no problems at all in fact it can be quite refreshing when it is baking hot
Many thanks for the wonderful advice - we have decided to book the Athena apartments in August 2007 - realise it will be busy -but what the heck!!
