Hello experts!
We are 2 single male gentlement (both 27) who are looking at Egypt as a potential destination for late October/early November.
We're after some good culture, nice surroundings and a relaxing time. We are looking for a minimum of 4* on an AI basis and dont want to spend any more than £600 so last minute might be the way forward on this. What we dont want is to turn up at a building site either havinge done this on many occasion before!
While were not party animals, we would like to have a lively atmosphere where we can meet people to enhance our holiday along with some form of quality entertainment. We're both outgoing lads and anjoy good food, good wine and good company so not into getting completly trollied, puking and pulling as many girls as we can. I disco or something like that would be good so we at least have the option of getting our groove on should the need arise.
Any help much apreciated!
The resort (Sharm) is very laid back, and building work is an ongoing thing in the hotels outside of Naama Bay where the majority of all inclusive hotels are.
If you are thinking of staying in and around the Naama Bay area, this is where all the action if you can call it that is..........basically we used to go on the beaches all day, and venture out into Naama Bay for a lovely meal, sit and have drinks and watch the world go by. Even if you are on a tight budget, it doesn't cost anymore than a fiver for a 3 course meal each, you will pay a lot more in resort for A1. Also being A1 means you possibly will not venture out of your hotel at night and stay in watching the shows the hotels put on. It is entirely your choice, but i am trying to put a different view point across. We hardly spent any money in the shops because we bartered hard, i did buy some fabulous jewellery and the jewellery shops are great and no hassle either.
After we had our meals we used to sit on the cushion benches and watch the pipe smoking and have a beer or mint tea and chat to people, we met loads of friends.
I just wanted to point out that if staying outside of Naama Bay you will be a bit isolated and it will be quiet, but you can get taxis into resort or the bus, just barter and agree a price before getting into the cab, and only get cabs that are recommended by the hotel company.
Sharm is a lovely place, fabulous diving and coral, water sports, horse riding, camel riding, quads and meeting the locals at the Bedouin tents is a nice adventure.
Whatever you do decide, £600 will go a long way and you will most proberly bring most back. If going A1, then £600 you could buy a pyamid for
Other resorts i cannot comment about, sorry.
Michelle.
Sharm is more international, lots of russian, italian, eastern european and russian visitors as well. There are a couple of discos (Black House, Hard Rock), and 1 club, Pacha.
Please watch your pockets, and cameras etc.
If you don't want to be AI or in a hotel, I can recommend Delta Sharm.
Derwentrocker - You say AI 600 will buy a pyramid, where are th best deals to be had? I want to go with thomson if possible for peice of mind but welcom any recommendations
Nuweiba is a great place for relaxing, swimming, snorkelling and diving, as well as exploring the various historic and natural sites in the mountains, canyons and deserts.
Unfortunately it may be a bit void of companionship of the other gender and so if you need that and more night life then Naama Bay would be a better option - but not on AI but on BB... gives you much more flexibility and freedom.
If going A1, then £600 you could buy a pyamid for
I think i must have had a senior moment writing that, because i missed a sentance out of it as it doesnt make sense
What i tried to say was the amount of spending money you were taking is quite a lot as everything in Egypt is very cheap, eg, buying a pyamide for £600
Also you may find that you spend more money overall with A1 than eating out in the restaurants and the food is repetitive.
I hope that helps.
Michelle
I agree with Swiss, we went BB with Thomson to the Sonesta Beach Resort in Sharm, and have been back as well, and enjoyed our holiday very much.
In future, instead of Thomson ( there I bet its happened again ), I shall now always write Thomsoon !
Dont get me wrong, were not 'on the pull' but want to meet both sexes just for company as it can get boring with just the two of us.
what kind of nightlife is there Naama bay? Not so much clubs ect but restaurents, bars, activites and suclike.
and should we decide to go B&B, what kind of spending money should we be looking at for a fortnights holiday?
Falafel restaurants, chinese, indian, italian, pizzas.... everything but fish and chips.
£500 each for 2 weeks should allow you to everything and anything, including quad bikes, a dive or two etc. Add another £100 or so if you fancy doing a trip to Cairo or Luxor.
As a family I may not be your best guide but the way i see it is you really have 2 options.
you either stay actually in Naarm Bay (the main town) which I believe would almost certainly be on a B+B or HB basis and be in the centre and eat out.
or
you go A/i to one of the hotels outside of Naarm bay because basically this is where all the A/Is are and catch the hotel courtesy bus (which would prob stop around midnight) or Taxi into town.
I personally dont find any of the A/Is cost a lot more than the B+B.s do but the prices vary on how well established the hotel is. the newer ones you will probably find are cheaper because many dont appear to on the beach side or they are trying to attract new business. I believe it is also more exspensive to stay in town so that seems to me another reason why there doesnt appear to be that larger price difference as it sort of balances out if that makes sense.
We always stay A/I but that is because as a family of 5 it works for us. however if you are relying on an A/I in sharm to offer evening entertainment you could be disappointed as there is mostly nothing around these hotels except beach on one side and dust on the other and the evening entertainment is very limited. they havnt quite got it in that department yet
hope this helps.
