IKEA in Izmir

Hi I haven't actually been there but I have been told that some things are actually more expensive than in Ikea UK. They are certainly doing a lot of advertising. I stay in a fairly remote spot a long way from Izmir and was amazed a few weeks ago to see a mobile Ikea shop window being pulled up and down our only main street on a trailer. It was so funny.

when I visited the prices were about the same as UK , and the range of goods seemed the same.. They will deliver to Kusadasi, so I assume Bodrum also. The price depends on how much you buy. Delivery cost depends on how much space your stuff takes up in a van.

B&Q have also opened in Kusadasi [although I think there is also a branch in Bodrum]

Quite a few visited Ikea from Kusadasi and were happy with the prices and deliveries - but it can be hard to beat a pre-erected package from some of the local suppliers.

I bought a made to measure breakfast patio table in solid marble delivered from a local roadside workshop for £105

cheers

Hi,

I just thought i should write and let people know how I got on buying furniture in Bodrum. I thought I had a bit of an impossible task - had to buy 2 beds, mattresses, sofa, chairs, washing machine, fridge freezer, gas hob..... etc etc and get it delivered all in 4 days. (we were there for 6 but spent the first day cleaning and the second day was sunday - everything was shut.) In England this would have been impossible. Given I was also on a budget of £1500 and was in a country where I didn't know how things were done or where the best shops were, i thought it would be even harder!

Was also worried about getting something to my taste - most of the sofas we saw were hideous!! Unless you like lime green or orange, and towel-like fabric. If you do, you'll be spoilt for choice..)

Luckily we were recommended a 'one-stop-shop' on a road on the outskirts of the town, and were taken there by a guy from the complex. It was amazing!!! They take you round 3 different warehouses - one for electrical equipment, one for beds/mattresses, and one for sofas, wardrobes and bedside tables, where they have a pretty good choice of things. I got absolutely everything I mentioned in the first paragraph, except for sofa and chairs. I even got an iron, ironing board, kettle and a triple wardrobe.
Total cost? About £850, free delivery. They delivered it the following day, and someone came round to plumb in the washing machine. I couldn't believe I actually had pretty much everthing sorted within a couple of days.

I got my sofa and two armchairs from a shop on the road out of Bodrum (towards Konacik, Bitez etc, loads of furniture shops there), was rattan with cream cushions, cost about £500 i think, and had that delivered the next day.

I got most of my other housey stuff - cutlery, pans, mugs, glasses, bed sheets, pillows, towels, blankets for winter etc from Metro. Spent a very long 3 hours in there but got absolutely everything, spent about £200. We waited for a taxi and they got us a whole dolmus to ourselves to take it all back!!

Also got a floor lamp from Koc Tas (B&Q) and the ceiling light fittings from a specialist light shop somewhere, they were about 10-15 dinar each.

They do make things so easy for you (when you know the places to go!), their customer service puts UK to shame!!!

Also, my washing machine and fridge are 'Altus' - which is made by the same people as Arcelik.

Umm.. I can't find the name of the 'one-stop-shop' at the moment. I've got a business card somewhere and a receipt so will keep looking..!!

Hope this has been useful.

x claire
