Schools in our area close for half term on Friday 28th October and reopen on Monday 6th November. This seems later than usual and some UK holiday centres are closed after 29th October. European resorts will also be that bit colder which would mean flying further south.
Are these dates typical of the UK (we are in Wales)? One Devon park I called have no statics available for that week so perhaps we are not so unusual. Anybody know why half term is so late?
We live on Wirral and our half term begins on 23rd Oct. I work in a school and the half term dates for October have always been roughly the same are I have the dates until 2007/8 and they are the same.
Yours does seem very late - I remember 2 years ago we were in Shropshire for October half term and the schools were closing the following week. Maybe some education authorities do this but as you are finding out lots of places in the UK will be closed.
Hope you find something, the only good thing is that if you do it will be cheaper than the hiked up prices for w/c 23rd October as most operators are working on 23rd October as half term.

Here in Scotland the finishing dates are either Friday the 6th or 13th of October depending on which local authority area the school is in.

Pippy I'd remove that link as it's useless as there are no set dates. Every school now dictates it's own term dates. I work in a large organisation with staff having children at numerous schools within the same educational area. One member of staff's husband works in a school, her son goes to another. Both had two weeks off at Spring Bank, but only one week was the same.
Some schools do close for the first week in November, some for the last week in October and some for both weeks!

Hi Steve99! I'm in South West Wales and our half term start Mon 23rd.
In Somerset, the kids break up for half term on Friday 20th October and either go back on Wednesday 1st November or Thursday 2nd November depending on which part of the county their school is in.
Hi, here in Stoke on Trent we break up on Friday 20th - if you are different look at it as an advantage -- the prices may be cheaper!

Some schools also prefer to coincide half term with Halloween and November 5th, so the schools are closed over those dates and they don't have to deal with any associated high jinks by the children.
I've now seen our H/T dates for the next 3 years and all are same week - takes in lat weekend October and first few days November. Silverka -may be cheaper but lots of UK places cloed and even in Europe you need to go a bit further south to find decent weather by then I think.

Here in Cardiff they finish on Friday 27th October, but mine have got inset days ,so the last day for High school is Wednesday 25th and primary school Thursday 26th October.

My friend teaches in Swansea and her hubby teaches in Powys. He is off the week before her, and it's the same in February.
