or if you already have an adapter (2 pin round) from somewhere like egypt that fits fine. although i found in goa the plug sockets are a bit dodgy in a lot of hotels & even with a proper adapter the thing was still hanging out of the socket im sure i used sellotape just to get the damned thing to stay in when i was trying to charge my camera battery :D

Raz, yes they are required. You need the 2 pin type, sold in many places, ie, boots, sainsburys, argos etc, or at the airport before you leave. Many are universal type, just check they are compatable for Asia

Adaptors are easily available for around 90 rupees - you will find them in most shops. My OH has made a short extension lead with a 13 amp plug, about a foot of cable to a 2 way extension socket - just plug into Goan adaptor. Handy when we are both charging our phones, ipods etc.

Plugs.. Well I have been living here for 4 years now and I really can't say a good word about any of the white adapter plugs, they really are badly made. I even forked out a bit more for an imported version, ok it was more solid and seemed to be much better made but still sparked and was not a good fit for the UK style plugs.

I have found good black adapter plugs though. I got one from somewhere and now won't waste my money on the white ones. The black ones are actually cheaper ( 30 Rs/- ) and work so much better. The problem is trying to find somewhere that stocks them. I know of one tiny shop in Panjim (opp Post Office) which has them - bought 5 or 6 last time I was there. They did have two qualities and I bought the ones that seemed better made...

So... I hope I can convert people to the small black ones as they're really SO much better (and no I don't own shares in the company! )
