Hello Kathy

The Paphos Region is far more rugged and natural than the East Coast.

Most of the beaches in this area are shingle or a mix of sand & shingle.

Some sandy beaches can be found but tend to be very small, in little coves.

The beach at the rear of the St George's Hotel is man made but consists of crushed shells, however it is fantastically clean and the break water makes swimming very safe and clear.

The best beaches in the area are probably found @ Coral Bay - 20 mins on the bus from Paphos Harbour. We tend to go here with the little ones to build sand castles.

It tends to get very busy on a Sunday with locals but in October it should not be a problem. We went for a week last year in October, the water was great for paddling - the little ones loved it.

Paphos is a great place to visit later on in the year as it is still busy but not crowded.

The weather is warm but not too hot - but it all depends on what you like and what you intend to get out of your holiday.

Anyway - good luck with your search.

Hi kathy

We love Paphos and there are a few nice small beaches but if you are a

beach fiend then maybe it's not for you. As Liakada said though they are

to be found if you look for them :D

If you don't fancy Ayia Napa why not have a look at Protaras. It has

beautiful sandy beaches and great accommodation too :D

Kato Pafos does not have a great beach, it is not that kind of resort, it does have a few small ''sandy'' beaches one is the picture below, the main area is Coral Bay some seven miles further west, there are many very quiet beaches even further past Coral Bay and a car or four wheeled drive will be needed, this is where you would find me!

This phone picture took yesterday (Wed) at Kato Pafos beach! (main tourist area)

Hi all
When I was in Paphos last year I travelled to Coral Bay on the bus. I was looking forward to going as I had heard a lot about it. It took the bus I went on around 45 minutes to get there. I had been made to believe it was "just down the road", and would get there between 10-15 minutes. When I got there the weather turned dull, blowing strong winds and I got sand in my eyes as I walked down the slope to the beach. I stayed there for about a hour, after getting my sight back, and got back on the bus which took about the same length of time going back. It wasn't that the bus was packed with tourists, it was April.
Sorry if I sound negative, but I thought I would tell you of my experience.
I was glad I was staying in Paphos and I had a great time.

Hi

It has never taken me 45 mins to get to Coral Bay from Paphos so I guess you just had an unfortunate experience.

I have never experienced strong winds there either but then the weather in April can be unpredictable.

I'm sorry that you had such a bad experience as it is a lovely place particularly if you stay on the bus right till the last stop and go to the second part of Coral Bay beach which is smaller but tends to be a lot quieter.

Our little ones love Coral Bay. Don't get me wrong we love Paphos too but Coral Bay is great also (well usually).

Dawnie yes you were very unlucky, it is not usually windy in Cyprus but it has it's moments, winter here sees some bad storms, with heavy rain, but most of the year (ten months) it is either like a good English spring or as hot as hell...Coral Bay is a big sandy beach well known in Cyprus and maybe that's it's problem, really a car is the way to go here, public transport is not the best, but fifteen minutes is normally the travelling time from Kato Pafos less in your own car, I do drive it most days..your bus must have had many pick ups.

storm a couple of years ago near Coral Bay..we do get many of these whirlwinds in winter or late summer.
