If you are after sun and sand type holiday to Egypt, then you are probably going to get your best choice of accommodation in Sharm.

However I don't think there is much self catering accommodation. It seems to be either All Inclusive's or Bed and Breakfast hotels. If you wish to eat out you will probably need to be close to Namma Bay which is where most of the restaurants are, otherwise you will incur taxi fares evey night. They are cheap about 5 pounds each way but it could be a bit tedious over 14 nights with 2 little ones with you.

An alternative might be to go for AI but then go into Namma Bay or possibly Old Sharm every third or fourth night as it is cheap to eat out and this breaks the holiday up a bit.

I went in April this year and thought the weather was lovely although it did get dark early of an evening. May would be ideal. You probably need to look at a few egypt holiday brochures as well. Good Luck. :D

Perhaps you should consider El Gouna - we were there this year, previous years in Sharm and Luxor. Personally I preferred this resort because you could go out in the evening, and it has a strict rule in El Gouna of 'no hassle'. No hassle in shops, taxis all have set prices of £1.50 anywhere in El GOuna. You have lots of bars and cafe's to wander to in the evening and also have the choice of the up market marina too, which has an excellent party night on a Friday. Every bar has a pool table which the kids will love, and free! Other things also go on down town El GOuna which is walking distance from most hotels, all hotels have free shuttles though. We did B and B and preferred that, as there were so many nice places to eat, and cheap but quality excellent. Its the first year that none of us came down with any tummy problems. Its very pretty, and built around blue lagoons - some call it the fake Egypt, as far as I was concerned the only 'fake' part was the fact that no-one is allowed to hassle the tourists!

Incidently, we paid around £20 for an evening meal including drinks for four people [one course, but the courses were normally so big that we sometimes shared one!!].

Hi ElleDee

Can you recommend a hotel in El Ghouna that has bars and restaurants you can walk out to & is suitable for young children.
Thanks

Sandie

Yes, absolutely. And the downtown area is traffic free where all the restaurants and bars are so ideal.

Sorry, just re-read your question and realised I didnt answer fully  We stayed in the Arena Inn which was fine, no frills sort of hotel, ideally located, fab pool overlooking the lagoon and walking distance to downtown. However, next year we are looking to go AI for a change and hopefully booking this week  . Most of the day is spend round the hotel, so less hassle being AI but in the evening we can still have a walk around, have a beer elswhere, game of pool etc without breaking the bank!!! The Arena is the only one we have been to, but all the hotels seem to be very nice there, havent heard anyone saying otherwise. Good luck in choosing!
