Ah yes, I wasn't thinking about physically taking the things from someone else's bag which is what they are talking about re him not having 'packed' it - just that I gather they do this because of weight distribution - not having single items weighing more than 20kg - yet they are okay with letting you pay for it then loading it on?

Doesn't make much sense to me especially with such a low amount but I suppose rules are rules and that's that.

We managed to stick within the 20kg limit fairly easily this year - depite OH taking 4 large hardback books in his case. (2 wks sc in greece)

Admitedly neither of us are high maintenance
We took a small bottle of travel wash and enough sunscreen for 1 week - I think we'll take more next year

The only electrical I took was OH's hair clippers. The bulkiest item, that we didn't use, was OH's jeans/chinos and smart shoes. But if you stay in a nice hotel you might need long trousers for dinner

We didn't take towels - we bought cheap beach towels at the resort and left them behind afterward

I took tesco value vest tops and t shirts for during the day and through them out when i'd worn them a few times. I rinsed through some other t-shirts and underwear 3 times - took me a total of 30 miutes in a two week holiday - no ironing etc required

But then I have to admit we are not very high maintenance and after two weeks i was a bit bored of the clothes I'd brought.

I understand the comments that you are going to need more allowance for two weeks than one.

But in the last 17 years we have been holidaying abroad we have never needed more than 20kg for a fortnight each..........in fact mine is usually 15 - 17kg, and I bring loads!

Its been mentioned that you can pay a premium to bring heaver items, but surely from a health and safety point of view handlers should have to manhandle bags of up to 36kgs...........people on this forum in other threads have complained about items in their luggage being damaged, and saying that they are "thrown around"............well I would certainly throw a bag that was going to give me a hernia lifting and handling............

We buy ceramics, bring duty fee booze, and Ive bought shoes and handbags whilst away, and it still doesnt go over the allowance.

Shouldnt we be giving some thoughts to people who have to lift these things?

There is a max weight of 32kg for any bag / case.
They do not accept any one item over that weight even if you wanted to pay the extra.
That was brought in for health and safety.
I agree i would never expect anyone to lift anything i couldnt lift myself x
