Unfortunately it doesn't work like that.
On one occassion we were slightly over weight (by slightly I mean about 3kg between four of us) we were told to go to excess luggage counter and pay for it. They give you a slip to take with you so they know how many extra kg they have to charge you for. You can pay in cash/debit card. The man behind us heard what was going on and stepped in saying he only had hand luggage could he not 'take' our excess. He was told no as he would not have packed our luggage so could not verify what was in it. So it doesn't matter if one person has 30kg and a total stranger has 5kg they will still charge the person with 30kg for excess luggage.

Doesn't make much sense to me especially with such a low amount but I suppose rules are rules and that's that.
We have on the other hand got away without paying anything on more than one occassion so can't complain.

Admitedly neither of us are high maintenance
We took a small bottle of travel wash and enough sunscreen for 1 week - I think we'll take more next year
The only electrical I took was OH's hair clippers. The bulkiest item, that we didn't use, was OH's jeans/chinos and smart shoes. But if you stay in a nice hotel you might need long trousers for dinner
We didn't take towels - we bought cheap beach towels at the resort and left them behind afterward
I took tesco value vest tops and t shirts for during the day and through them out when i'd worn them a few times. I rinsed through some other t-shirts and underwear 3 times - took me a total of 30 miutes in a two week holiday - no ironing etc required
But then I have to admit we are not very high maintenance and after two weeks i was a bit bored of the clothes I'd brought.
But in the last 17 years we have been holidaying abroad we have never needed more than 20kg for a fortnight each..........in fact mine is usually 15 - 17kg, and I bring loads!
Its been mentioned that you can pay a premium to bring heaver items, but surely from a health and safety point of view handlers should have to manhandle bags of up to 36kgs...........people on this forum in other threads have complained about items in their luggage being damaged, and saying that they are "thrown around"............well I would certainly throw a bag that was going to give me a hernia lifting and handling............
We buy ceramics, bring duty fee booze, and Ive bought shoes and handbags whilst away, and it still doesnt go over the allowance.
Shouldnt we be giving some thoughts to people who have to lift these things?
They do not accept any one item over that weight even if you wanted to pay the extra.
That was brought in for health and safety.
I agree i would never expect anyone to lift anything i couldnt lift myself x
Well i know i couldn't lift a case weighing 32kg...thats why my case is on wheels...lol.....nicole
Kat
I mailed both but both have said they make no exceptions
Sis in law doesnt even get extra even though its her wedding
Also they said its 3kg per person for hand luggage.
Only good thing is its a holiday and we cant wait
