We visit Oz every couple of years or so and always book with one of the Oz specialists such as Travel Quest, TravelMood, Travelbag etc. We make a point of getting the Sunday Times every week and their Travel section has all of their adverts in it Most airline have short term sales in it and we usually choose one of them Always go for extra leg room, B.A. offer a miserly 31" most Far East ones like Singapore, Malaysia and the likes of Emirates all give you 34", also their inflight entertainment package is far superior to B.A. Malaysian offers free internal flights for a stopover to the likes of Penang Langkawi, and Singapore with resonable Hotels at good prices and we've stopped over for a couple of days at all of them using this perk. As far as the internal flight go we usually find the budget carrier Virgin Blue ( yes mr. Bransons ) to work out over all the cheapest We always book it online from here as with the likes of Easyjet the price usually rises as the travel date approaches Hope this helps Alan

When in Melbourne we stay at the Novatel on Collins it is in the centre of the city and in Sydney The Menzies it is in the centre of the city there also

Must see places in Sydney are a harbour cruise or ferry trip and go up the Centrepoint Sydney Tower it is on Market street near the corner of Pitt street in the city and a day trip to the Blue Mountains is very good

Melbourne there is a brown tram that does a circle of the city it is free the only thing that is . The best look out is the Rialto tower in Collins street and near Spencer street

Many thanks for your replies. I am going to try and book the flights first, probably going to fly with Qantas, as that's what the family are flying with, but if I find a better fare, I will go with another carrier, not BA though, I have heard that their long haul product isn't great.

I will look at those websites you have posted, many thanks, if I have any moe questions, I will ask!! :D

Is there much to do in the city?

Is it better than Sydney?

It's different to Sydney and I don't think you can compare the two. Sydney is a place you must visit, very lively and huge. Brisbane is smaller and much more laid back. I am not into night life so can't give you any help if that's what you want . There was enough to do during the day( see my previous post)l ots of good shopping, cafes and restaurants and there is quite a lot of activity on and on the banks of the Brisbane River, I was kept busy but it's not a place I would say you must see.

Hi
Yes all Judith has said is true a ferry or a criuse trip on the Brisbane river and the shopping thing the main thing about Brisbane is the drop off point to the Gold Coast just south or the Sunshine Coast north at the most I would only stay 2 or 3 days

We booked with Quantas directly & paid a little over £2,000 for 4 of us. I booked it in March & we leave on the 3rd december & come back on the 27th December....... flights on these days are about £900 per person at the moment. So I would recommend booking earlier rather than later, however my parents went with Singapore Airlines earlier this year in Feburary & booked 7 days before they went for £680 each. Think it depends on how many of you are going. Good luck with the flights..
