Dubai in August isn't hot it's unbearable - unless you can handle mid 40s degrees in the shade I would seriously reconsider this as an option. Hong Kong will also be pretty steamy - up to mid 30s with very high humidity.

I am used to the sun, went to Egypt last year in July. So maybe go later in the year then, September or October or something like that

I went to Hong Kong a few years ago in July and was lucky not to get the expected high rainfall. However, it was so humid. We went to visit a relative's grave which was up a slight slope and by the time we reached it you would have thought the heavens had opened!
I found April this year much more pleasant. We combined Hong Kong with Saigon and Bangkok this time and with Bangkok and Koh Samui in July.

Thanks for this input.

I'm sort of thinking maybe seeing how much the same deal would be for October or November.

Love the look of the Harbour Plaza hotel in Hong Kong, every impressive.

that would be a better option. Have to be honest though and say personally I would find 7 days too long in Hong Kong. ( but others may disagree!)

I've been to Hong Kong in August and I wouldn't recommend it if you can make it later. You're looking at highs of around 32°C and an average 20 days rainfall in August - not the perfect combination for sightseeing :( In October/November, the temperature's more likely to be around 25°C with only 10/11 days average rainfall per month.

Hate to disagree with Fiona, but I've been 4 times now and I could happily spend a month in Hong Kong and still want more :D

thats what the forum is all about! Different opinions- you take it all on board and make your mind up as to what is best for you.I think my view is marred by the fact that I found it draining in July due to humidity and in April I really was not well with Labyrithitus and found HK too hectic. I certainly enjoyed it though.

This is exacly what I want. The more commments the better.

Going to call Thomson back tomorrow morning when they reopen and see if there's much price different for November.

I was wondering if you got any further with your booking? The reason I'm asking is because I've just been having a look at the Harbour Plaza and, although it does look gorgeous, the location is a bit out of the way. I think if I was going to Hong Kong for the first time I would prefer to stay somewhere a bit more central and closer to an MTR station rather than having to rely on the hotel's shuttle bus or taxis.

Just a thought.

Sorry I haven't got back to you lot.

Right the prices in Novemeber are so expensive quoted £1700 each rather than £2370 for the both of us.

So what we are doing now is still going in August but we're going to Bangkok for 3 days also.

4 nights in the Harbour Plaza - Hong Kong
3 nights in the Rembrandt Hotel - Bangkok
7 nights in Oasis Beach Hotel - Dubai

Total price £2393, couldn't believe it. Much respect to Sky Travel lady on there sorted me out big time. Prices include all tranfers and we flying with Fly Emirates which I'm pleased about.

I know the weathers not going to be great in Hong Kong and in Bangkok but it's going to be boiling in Dubai which will make up for it.

Having stayed in the Harbour Plaza, it is a fantastic hotel; as long as you get a Harbour View Room. See if you get a complimentary upgrade due to staying more than 4 nights. If not, pay for one. The nighttime views are outstanding; better than most hotels which are interrupted by new building work.

The swimming pool on the roof is a nice touch. All in all, I think it's the best value hotel in Hong Kong.

Worry not about the location. There is a shuttle bus, taxis are cheap, and you can get the Star Ferry from very close by.

We have been to Hong Kong for two weeks in August. Don't know how anyone can say 14 days is too long. There is so much to do and see on Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, Macau. The weather is hot and humid as to be expected but inside mostly air conditioned of course.
