There's a really nice restaaurant in Bettwys y Coed,it's part of a small hotel [can't remember the name of it] but it's more or less directly opposite to the tourist shops by the railway station.
We have just booked at the Brewers Fayre near to Prestatyn for just over £30 a head - we're not expecting the Ritz but have been there a number of times and the food has always been ok.
The Brewers Fayre also have a pub at Llandudno - try the Brewers web site or Beefeater menu - they seem pretty good as well
We went to Brewers Fayre for Christmas...because, like you we had quite enjoyed bar snacks etc...it was awful, never again.............I would never recommend especially at Christmas. There are so many lovely restaurants in Llandudno......have you been to the area before..?
Oh great - ho ho ho as Santa says!
Hi Presto......we went to the one at Craigside in Llandudno........it really was badand we paid £39 per head. The Aafon conwy has a slightly better reputation...but I would not book again for Christmas.......but this is my opinion only....you may well enjoy......have you tried the Pen y Bryn in Colwyn Heights...........Superb.......there really are some great places near and around Llandudno.
To be honest we have booked already at Brewers - 'The Bells' at Prestatyn - have been there a number of times and it has been ok - friendly service and good food. Aren't expecting the Ritz - as we said --- to be honest just to get out and have a meal and then sit by the sea will make Christmas Day different. My parents have never been out for Christmas Day in 80 yrs so just going out for Christmas dinner in itself is a treat ---------------- (to get a mega meal we know that we would have to pay a fortune -------) I suppose for us just to be together with a meal will be nice ---------- if you get my drift!
(My parents belong to the generation where a 'rationed egg' and one orange was a joy on Christmas Day, so I think they'll just enjoy the experience! ) If all else fails we may just hit the bubbly and drown our sorrows!
Hubby and I are doing the 'home made' meal for New Year!
Will let you know how it goes!
Wish us luck!
PS Our parents live near to Holywell so Llandudno (though we love it) is too far out for Christmas Day - thanks anyway
....Holywell is a little too far from Llandudno for a meal on Christmas Day.....you really don't want to be travelling to far...I hope you all have a lovely time........Suzy
To be honest - without sounding too sickly! --- it'll be nice just as a family get together!
Will wave to Llandudno!
(While we're on this post - any recommendations for a good hotel for a weekend break - 3 / 4 star near the sea?)
if you have a very special celebration,it has to be The Empire Hotel...a really super hotel near to the pier ........... wonderful amenities....I am sure you would have a wonderful stay there. There are so many others all along the front,to many to name, but as I said for that special occasion, you will not be disappointed.
Cheers folks
Thank you for your suggestions. I am finding a lot of places not open or already booked out. There is Ruthin Castle (52pounds a head)which sounds great but very formal and dont want to have to pack formal clothes eg a suit. (travelling from Aussie) Lunch in a castle sounds great.
We've never gone out for Christmas lunch but we have eaten at "The Bells" several times and have found the food to be quite nice. We live in Prestatyn and when my family come for a visit, we often go there for a meal.
I agree with suzyq about the Craigside in Llandudno. We went for a meal there once and have never gone back.
Hope everything is good for you on Christmas Day. Enjoy!!
We are really looking forward to it -- for us land locked Stokies just being near the sea, with family will be spot on.
To be fair to the Brewers in Llandudno - we went there the other month. Like you we had not been too overwhelmed but the last time we went the service, food etc was excellent and my parents came away well and truelly impressed. Are planning to visit again next week so will let you know how it goes!
Many thanks again ------
Thanks for your help everyone. I have finally made a booking at Nant Hall. So at least we wont be lonely or starve. Then we just have to roll our over indulged bodies back to Northop Hall.
To be honest we weren't expecting perfection but we had a super lunch. The staff were FANTASTIC! The staff waiting on and the managers were excellent - we got lots of free drinks of very nice sparkly wine and the whole set up was lovely. There was nice attention to detail re the tables and some nice personal touches like a Christmas Card for all that made it a nice afternoon. The food was well presented and of a good quality - I fail to see why anyone would want to complain (if they have) as it was very, very good. I heard lots of very positive comments from customers.
We had a lovely Christmas Lunch and lots of chats with the managers. I think its fair to point out that the managers are new and that they have not been there long - it was their first Christmas (after a grim one last year apparently) and they are trying hard to build the reputation up again. I'm sure that if they keep this up they will do well.
Anyway, to be fair to them, just wanted to say "Thank you all at The Bells" and "Best Wishes for 2007"
