Ice in Drinks

We are just back from PEK - I would say check with your holiday rep.

We were staying at the Sol el Mouradi, which the hotel chain rate as 4*, but JMC rate at 3* - Our rep advised us that all their ice was brought in from elsewhere, made from mineral water, and safe to use/drink.

So the rep may be able to advise you.

I think at a 5* hotel, the ice should be safe enough to have, but would be more cautious at any external bars/cafes.

Hope this helps

I've never bothered to avoid the ice in the hotels and have never come to grief. I've tended to be a bit more cautious in cafes away from the hotels but even then have had it if I can see that it's coming out of a 'bought in' bag. And if the locals are not having ice in their drinks then I certainly don't have it either!

Living in Tunisia for 6 months every year, we often spend days with friends and don't ask them to use bottled water for us. We have never had any problems. Years ago, a local doctors told me that the water was perfectly safe for visitors to drink, but the chemicals used to purify it are different from those used in Europe - hence the rather nasty - but harmless taste. :yuck If we are guests in a Tunisian home, we tend to 'think of England' and get on with it. Don't even think about it now and certainly have never had any adverse effects. As karenppp says, you clean your teeth etc with no problems - and my dear friend Aslemma, must consume LOTS in her drinks!! :glynis  Jenny
