We have stayed at this hotel 5 years running. Only for 1 night though just to visit the races.
Well i have just returned and i will never set foot in this hotel again.
The hotel has been re-furbished and is lovely upon arrival. Although there is nothing in and around the surrounding area.
The bedrooms had been re-furbished from last year and were lovely. Well i thought that they were.
Over the years we have visited the races for a night meeting, then we have always returned to the hotel for a few late night drinks. this has never been a problem. The average age of our group being 55.
Well upon arrival back at the hotel on Sat night we were told that we wasn't allowed to have a drink at the bar. Our party asked could drinks be put on a room tab and paid the next morning. This usually is never problem, as we have done it on previous years. We were told No. We asked could a credit card be left behind the bar. Again No we was told. Well at this point a few of our party was getting upset. As it is usually a nice end to a night to have a drink in the hotel bar.
Well this year the hotel has been taken over by new management. And theynow have a policy that upon arrival you have to give over your debit card details. Nobody in our gang would have minded doing this. But we protested because we wasn't told of this upon arrival. But to no avail.
Well the duty manager then decided to come out with this gem of a comment.
'You people are all the same, you want your drinks putting on your room bills, then in the morning you just hand your keys in and don't pay your bill. And for credit cards how do we know they are genuine'
This didn't go down to well, as the hotel has now been taken over by management of foreign nationality (no problem to us) A few members of our group felt that this was a racist comment.
About 10 mins later somebody higher than the duty manager arrived. A member of our group told of his disgust at what the duty manager had said to us.
this person said that this would never have been mentioned by a member of his staff.
Then a voice from the corner piped up 'oh yes he did' it was a gentleman who was sat in the bar on his own. having a drink and reading a magazine. he had nothing to do with our party.
Then 10 mins later when it had calmed down the manager gave our group a free round of drinks and allowed us to put a credit card over the bar.
Apparantly the don't like the foreign staff handling money as they sometimes give out the wrong money.
I have never been so verbally abused by somebody who i'm purchasing a service from.
So from this encounter neither me or any of my 20+ party will ever visit this establishment again.
