Hi, can anyone tell me if you can buy computer 'bits' in Goa or are they non-existant? My OH is after some computer memory and wondered if you could buy it in Goa. Also, he doesn't really want to take his mobile phone so was wondering if it is easy and cheap to buy one out there.
Thanks for your help.
memory is so cheep in the UK its not worth the bother, computers parts are about the same price as the UK and no GT.

Are there a few electrical shops in GOA then? Wanted to buy some little speakers for when im on the beach x
There's an electrical shop in Margao that sells computers/parts speakers phones etc. If you go round the corner at Longhuino's (on the main square) go down the hill about 200 yards and its on your right.
How easy is it to set up your own internet connection in Goa.I am off tomorrow for 6 months with my laptop so any afvise would be appreciated.
You will need to buy either a Reliance or Tata phone to get your own internet connection. Have used Reliance but found it very slow.....Tata much better but they charge you way over the odds if you are a foreigner!!
Not sure where you are based?, but there is a Tata outlet on postoffice road in calangute. Nice couple that run the place and the service was good when we signed up last year.

GFF! What about a bluetooth type connection? That's what I'm hoping to set up next week when I arrive, I understand to subscribe 12 roops per day! deducted from the credit on my sim card, ( sorry forgotten which network I'm with?) Intel possibly or something similar?
Thanks for the info,i will look into it when i arrive on Wednesday.
Not sure about Bluetooth connection but I'm sure somebody on here will.
The Tata phone is really quite good....not to slow depending on the time of day.

For johnnyg,Save repeating it all check this posting about Bluetooth
Hi I have just set up my wireless laptop for dialup broadband. Reliance do not do it Airtel are the provider you need. Went to their main showroom in Panjim - great guy called lester configurated bluetooth phone to the laptop. We bought a new phone a Sony ericcson the latest, technology its got internet, video camera, camera mp4 (yep not mp3) and loads and loads of features that i wil never in a million years understand cost £90.00 in Uk its £164. He charged 500rupees for the setting up and we have unlimited broadband - and fairly fast - for 15 rupees per day. Its a monthly contract and can be cancelled after 1 month. It will work all over India and the best bit - supports Skype video calling and msn so u can see back to uk. If u have a bluetooth 'phone u don't need to buy another one and any make or model will do. You can go into any Airtel place after 30 days and upgrade - easy recharge @499 r upees for another 30 Days. Anywhere you get a mobile signal it works. Airtel office is near Fidalgo Hotel Panjim hope this helps
There is a brilliant computer expert in Panjim, he will certainly be able upgrade your computer. You will find him at Artek Systems, Vishal Building thats next to Campal medical centre. Tel: 9823010130 His name Agnelo DeSa. He is honest and does not sell u anything u don't need. He spent 3/4 of an hour refining and retuning mine and didn't charge a penny. A bit like Evesham in Uk will build a computer to the specification tailor made for you. So an upgrade would be easy for him.
Mobile phone the very latest spec not even out in UK yet are approx half price here - again you have to go to Panjim. Digital World is the shop Airtel use them ask for Vishal and he will see you ok. We paid £90.00 for a phone that would be £163 in uk except its not out there yet. Hope this helps
Switch the Bluetooth function off when not using it, your phone can be hijacked.
I don't know how its done but you don't want someone using your phone.

Hi puddd4, thanks for the info. We will be buying the memory banks on their own not taking a computer but will definitely look him up. We are looking to buy a phone to use in India whilst on holiday so not too bothered if is the latest spec.
I printed out Puddd4's post shown it to Lester. he smiled when I told him he was world famous, he set my laptop up for me for free.
You can also buy a data card for your laptop.I have set mine up using reliance costs 5000 Rupees then you take whatever plan you want. The one advantage is it can be used anywhere.
