gold is a good buy in Thailand. However, gems are a bit more risky. There are many scams. You would really need to be clued up as to what to look for gemwise. Look for a reputable shop which will issue a certificate of authenticity. Best places to go to are Chinatown and also MBK centre. Perhaps some of our members can help with specific recommendations.

It would be time consuming to find something to your style - and not sure how you would do it without her knowing! It would be a place I'd consider getting silver or gold and have the ring made to your own specification, but if you're after top-end jewellery thats reliable - buy it here and propose there!

My top tip - if you are going to propose in Bangkok - book a table at Vertigo at The Banyan Tree - advise them before hand, and get a bottle of bubbly put on ice! Possibly the most stunning and romantic place in Bangkok - it's open-air on the 60th odd floor - when I was there you had the most stunning city sunset - and a friend saw lightning hit the city from clouds below where he was! (yes there are higher restaurants - but this beats it!)
