my husband and i and our four kids just got back from goa,we fell in love with it.when we first got there we thought oh my god, what have we let our selfs in for the power cut in the airport, hundreds of porters tried to grab our cases we fought them off, got in a taxi who charged to much then we drovepast cows on the main roads tuk tuks overtaken by mopeds with four people squeezed on them and kids.from this moment on what a wierd and wonderful place i could smell the insence and wood burning ,after getting to the hotel and getting to know the hotel staff and locals we grew to love it even more, they bend over backwards for you.one ladt who owned a little store kept kissing and hugging my little 4 year old boy gave him sweets every day such friendly people, with a layed back attitude,
things we did
we went to anjuna market on a wed, i would avoid this at all costs, you get hassled by ten odd sellers at once even no or maca naca ( no thanks in goan) does not work, thay grab your hand tightly and say come and look at my shop)..after 5 minutes i wanted out.too many beggars there and anything here you can get in the shops in goa.
we went to two spice plantations one in keri ponda tropical spice plantation with a bridge crossing the river this one was amazing, they explained everything well,we looked and tasted the spice of each tree and very welcoming, food good too, view of river and trees picturesque.
the other one is the spice farm in ponda we didnt think much of this one the girl who took us on the tour rushed it pointed at trees and said what they are, we did not look and smell or taste the spices.
both spice plantations had elephants the better one at ponda there we got washed by the elephant, and rode on another.but i think the elephants are better looked after at the not so good spice plantation.
we went to ingo's saturday market, this was fantastic, lots of atmosphere different gifts to buy not just cack. lots of healthy food ,healing, crystals, alot of people are hippyfied and that was great chilled out place, well worth visiting.not half as much hassle as in ajuna market.
we actually stayed in candolim at the highland, but decided to visit palolem beach for two days, we stayed in co co nut tree houses, the beach is lovley, its fairly busy in the day, but better at night , with lots of beach shacks some have bonfires on the beach to sit relax and have a beer wathing lots of shooting stars in a pitch black sky is unbelievable.
definatley worth the experience.
we visited the doosager water fall two hours from candolim, then a 45 minute bumpy jeep ride to the falls, very nice to see, lots of wild cute monkeys we fed them bananas and nuts. the water there is freezing my hubby and kids got in but i was to chicken!!,it is a long ride to get there and we only were aloud to stay 1 hour, so in a way its not worth it, unless you havenever seen a water fall and want to see it.great for kids they will love the monkey's.
coco beach up north is horrible, lot of dolphin trips there.
baga beach is nice , calangute beach is far too busy with alot of indian holiday makers, who want to take your photo, as they do not get to see westerners that often.candolim beach is awful if you go to goa with kids do not go to candolim beach it is the most dangerous beach i have ever been to, the water is very deep and will suck you in pretty quick, you could not relax here and let your kids go and play.
morijim aswem and mandrem beaches (not far from candolim)
are beautiful shallow for kids, empty just like ship wreaked paradise.
hope you love goa as much as we did
