Hi Alan,
Dont know which ones but all the official shacks have a metal sign, giving the shack name and owner. This is the first season they have done this, so looks as if the ones who didn't get a licence are to be targetted.

Not sure of the shacks name, but so we were told by our shack, there were 100+ police to demolish it.

My man said it was to do with politics (been told it was legit and they have paid their licence fee)...something about upsetting the neighbouring shack (who no doubt paid off the police to knock it down).

It was rebuilt yesterday though and is back up and running

Only in goa...

Oh, yes!

And isn't that just one of the many reasons that we all love the place....

I'm easily confused (well, the wife reckons I am) but I look at Calangute/Candolim/ and Sinquerim beaches, and I can't tell where one begins and the other ends.

There was a report in the local paper today about Palolem shops being demolished AGAIN.......second time in three months.
Not sure which shack was demolished in Calangute??? I've been keeping well away from it all......too many sellers, sunbeds and hassle for me to put up with, I must be getting old!!!

I went to the fishermans this morning and they know nothing about shacks being knocked down?? or saying nothing.

he did say the police are asking too much in back handers this christmas/new year so they are having to put their prices up, Rs700 for the new year BBQ.

One of the shacks was the Sea Pearl. It's been on Calangute Beach for over 27 years.

Shack owners have to pay 35,000 rupees per season to the Calangute panchyat for an official licence but for a 250 rupee bribe panchyat members will provide electricity and turn a blind eye to shack owners trading illegally.

It's little wonder that many shack owners run the risk of their shacks being demolished.
