hi john and fran
Have been to polichrono and found just enough to do there without it being too busy. There are a plentiful number of bars and restaurants to give you a good choice without it being too busy. The next 2 resorts further down the peninsular (all easily reached by the local bus if you fancied a change of scenery!!) Hanioti and pefkohori are much busier resorts with loud music bars and discos.
If you do get to polichrono a good place to visit is Afitos also Nea Fokia small but very picturesque little places with a handful of tavernas in each.
A nice accomodation set right on the seafront at polichrono is the nemos Studios - Libra do these studios and they are within easy reach of the centre of the resort.

I too have stayed in Polychrono about 4 years ago and really enjoyed it. We stayed in the Kosmar studios and went with Olympic but sadly they seem to have stopped going there.
We went down to Hanioti a couple of nights and it's far busier but more "english" (if I dare say that!) and personally we liked staying in Polychrono better.
We went out one day on an organised trip to cycle around the peninsula and it was a great day out - highly recommended.

I stayed in Hanioti in 2005 and spent an enjoyable day in Polychrono (and Pefkohori). The two resorts are just about close enough to walk although taxis were only 5 euros.

Of the two we personally preferred Hanioti. We like places to be bustling and lively, although not 18-30 style resorts, and Hanioti was certainly the busier of the two with lots of bars and restaurants to choose from. We found our evenings could be as lively or as quiet as we wanted. The bars that were playing music were not overly loud and wouldn't intrude on a night out if you wanted somewhere quieter. We also thought the beach at Hanioti was much nicer.

The restaurants that we visited were of a high quality and theres a number that I'd recommend. Hanioti seems to attract a mixed range of holidaymakers although we didn't really see any big groups of lads/girls.

Hope this has helped a bit!
